Chargers are a possible Evolution of Infected Adventurers, belonging in the Evolved tier. They are blind yet highly mobile melee combatants.
Spawning
Evolved from an Infected Adventurer when it obtains at least 1 Evolution Point and its 5 minute Evolution timer expires. Once it does, it has a 22.5% chance to Evolve into a Charger.
Hyper Evolution
If a Charger obtains at least 7 Evolution Points and its 10 minute Evolution timer expires, it'll Hyper Evolve into a Berserker.
Unique Behavior
Chargers are capable of visibly wearing Armor in their head, chest, and legs slots. When a Charger Evolves naturally from an Infected Adventurer, it will keep any head, chest, and legs slot Armor the Infected Adventurer wore. When a Charger spawns via any other means, it'll retain the same values as Infected Adventurers do for spawning with Armor and a name.
Chargers are blind and cannot see targets like other Spore Mobs.
Very similarly to Wardens, Chargers will listen for sound events within a 20x20 block area around themselves. Projectile sound events take priority over mob sound events. Chargers will not detect other Spore Mobs making noise (walking, breaking blocks, etc.). If hearing a sound, a Charger's ears will vibrate (this visual has a 5 second cooldown) and it will run towards where the sound occurred. As it runs, it checks every 10 ticks within a 2 block range of itself for any target-able entities. If the Charger finds any, it'll target and attack them as normal. If the Charger reaches the location, it will wave its arms, feeling for any target-able entities within the 2 block range. Chargers will forget noises they hear after 5 seconds have passed without a Charger reaching the location of the sound origin.
Chargers check every second for any target-able entities that are currently touching their hitboxes. If a Charger finds any, it'll target and attack them.
If a target-able entity damages a Charger, it'll immediately target and attack them.
If a Charger is unable to deal damage to its current target for 2 seconds, it'll deaggro its target.
Every time a Charger attempts to wander to a new location while idle, it'll fire 2 to 6 'echo projectiles' in random directions from its body. Additionally, when reaching the location of a sound signal, there's a 30% chance a Charger will fire 3 echo projectiles. Echo projectiles travel slowly in the direction they were fired in and last for 6 seconds. If an echo projectile comes in contact with a block or a living entity, there's an X% chance it'll disappear and notify the Charger of the location, causing the Charger to run towards where the echo projectile hit, utilizing the same AI as when it hears a sound normally (see above). The chance depends on what the echo projectile hit (20% chance for blocks and 100% chance for living entities).
When pathfinding, if a Charger is unable to reach a location due to a height restriction of 2 blocks, it's capable of crouching, reducing the height of its hitbox in order to reach the desired location or target. If a height restriction of 1 block, it's also capable of crawling, again reducing the height of its hitbox in order to reach the desired location or target.
Chargers are immune to suffocation damage.
Chargers have 1.0 knockback resistance, meaning they can't be knocked back by attacks.
They are capable of opening Wooden Doors if in the way in order to pathfind.
Behavior
Chargers are hostile to most non-Spore mobs, with the exceptions being Animals and Fish (unless Should attack Animals is enabled via the Config) and mobs included in the Mobs Not Targeted blacklist within the Config.
Chargers inflict Mycelium Infection I for 30 seconds when dealing melee damage.
Cannot ride Boats.
Can perform short dashes in liquids to pursue a target.
Chargers have a 5% chance to drop a Scent upon death unless they are freezing.
Chargers can create a Search Alert upon death.
Able to utilize Kill Points to grant themselves buffs.
Present a weakness to the cold.
Chargers are not influenced by Horde Mentality; they are blind and cannot pair up with other Mobs. However, Infected, Evolved (excluding Chargers), Bairns, Scampers, and Gastgebers will attempt to pair up with Chargers.

Trivia
Chargers are inspired by and share a remarkably similar design to Clickers from The Last of Us.
The ears of Chargers are based on the Warden’s ears to visually indicate when a Charger reacts to a sound.
In the time the Charger has been planned, it has gone through three different models (two official and one fan). The first model was made by a staff member, Dr. Pilot, in early 2023. The second model was made by a then contributor, Blurathus, in early 2025. The third and current model was made by another staff member, Slasher, in late 2025; this is the official final model.
The texture of the first Charger model can be found within the files of the mod.
Chargers and Scavengers are the only Evolved in the mod to have unique idle sounds.
When the Charger was being added to the mod, its model got encoded in a problematic way; the mod creator had to spend seven hours in order to get Armor to render properly on the Charger.
Chargers are immune to suffocation damage because, during development, they would repeatedly crawl and uncrawl in small areas, causing their hitbox to get stuck in other blocks, making them suffocate to death.
