The open toe bandaging technique was demonstrated by Dr. Tshogyel lhamo where she stated that it is a supportive external coaptation method used to manage fractures in animals especially limb fractures. In this technique the the distal digits are left exposed for continuous assessment of vascular integrity, detection of complications and examination for swelling or impaired blood circulation.
The materials used during the bandaging was soft cotten paddings wrapped with sterile guage and covered with plaster of paris. Inorder to use the POP, it was first soaked in cold water and then carefully wand firmly wrapped around the affected limb. The technique was performed to immobilize and reduce the movement of the affected limb prior to surgical intervention of bone realignmnment.
