Sterilization/neutering is the most frequent and common surgery performed every Tuesday and Thursday at National Veterinary Hospital. In the month of december there are _ number of cases that underwent the surgery with 100% success rate.
The common indication of the surgery was to prevent unwanted pregnancies and reproductive diseases in pets.
During the surgeries, the interns took turns to assist the surgeons in sedating, inducing anesthesia, patient preparation and monitoring of vital signs. Intraoperatively, during my turn doctor karma gave me a chance to practically close the wound using schmieden suture pattern on a canine patient. Despite encountering difficulty during the process, the wound was successfully sutured up to its midpoint.
The experience enhanced my confidence in managing related wound closures and i also learnt the risks associated with improper closure of the wound.
In line with standard principles of surgical procedures, the tenets of halsted was strictly applied and demonstrated. The animal was monitored carefully until recovery from the induction and safely returned to the owners.
