On 27th january, we attended a surgical case of recurrent abdominal hernia in a cat. It was a post-operative complication due to eviseration after ovariohysterectomy, where the intestines and abdominal walls protruded through the site of surgical incision, forming a hernial ring and appears like a bump on the outside which can be mistaken for a tumor.

The procedure was performed by Dr.Tshogyel Lhamo, assisted by Mrs Moti maya and two interns including myself. 

During the procedure, the patient presented abnormal vital signs with profuse bleeding but it was maintained by applying haemostatic medicines like adrenaline and antibiotics like metronidazole, while continuously maintaing the level of oxygen and anaesthesia. The procedure includes debriding of necrosed tissues and reducing the hernial contents(intestines and fats) to its original place.

Closing the wound includes suturing the peritoneum abd abdominal fats with vicryl 2-0 in a cross mattress surgical pattern and the muscles and subcutaneous tissues were sutured with the same material in a simple continous pattern. Inter-dermal suture was applied followed by povidone iodine and concluded with application of bandages. The surgery was a success and the animal was prescribed to visit for regular follow up checkups.
