The haematology section involved blood sample handling and microscopic examination. The observed differences in cell morphology, staining intensity, and cell counts are influenced by physiological status, disease conditions, and sample handling. For instance, haemolysis or delayed processing can alter red blood cell morphology and biochemical values, explaining discrepancies sometimes seen between clinical presentation and laboratory results.
The Blood smear method was performed by dispensing a drop of blood on a clean slide, smeared with the help of another slab and 2 drops of Giemsa’s stain was applied on the smear and left to dry for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the sample is observed under the microscope to perform CBC (Complete Blood count) and to examine blood parasites. In the test that we’ve attended, we observed multiple numbers of large lymphocytes so the case was suspected to be either lymphoma or allergic reactions.
