NADPM & RCP 2.0 II- Lhamoizingkha

As part of ongoing efforts to eliminate unowned free-roaming dogs and rabies within GMC, the Nationwide Accelerated Dog Population Management and Rabies Control Programme 2.0 was conducted at Lhamoizingkha Dungkhag, Dagana, from 22nd to 25th January 2025. Seven of us including myself and a friend with 3 doctors and 2 vet nursed from National Veterinary Hopsital was provided with a chance to participate in this program. 

This program was one of  the most memorable journey of my field attachment period because during that short interval of time, we had the opportunity to meet with many livestock officials from all around the country who contributed meticulously in their duties. 

It was basically a three day program at three different gewogs with two teams allocated for each gewogs. The three gewogs were karmaling, nichula and lhamoizingkha. We were allocated in the Lhamoizingkha Team B along with Dr.Drizang Wangchuk and Mr. Norbu Wangchuk from Phuntsholing RVH and Dr.Thukten chophel of Sarpang DVH.

During the program i took the responsibilities of the vetnurse where i had to adhere to strict clinical protocols, assist the doctor in providing the required materials during the operation, administering antibiotics,calculation of the drugs and learning hands-on operation on castration and ovariohysterectomy AT THE SAME TIME!

The three days of the program provided me with various range of hands-on practical experiences such as castration and ovariohysterectomy, technical knowledges on the anesthetic drugs with its calculation and dose rates, real-life clinical environment and its challenges. Although the operational procedures cannot follow strict asceptic techniques, the doctors tried their best to perform the surgery without any complications.
