Necrotizing Stomatitis.

Necrotising stomatitis is a severe ulceration of the oral cavity characterised by tissue necrosis,pain,bleeding and progressive destruction of the oral cavity.

In the case that we have attended, the dog had been affected for nearly more than a year and the clinical presentation includes necrose lesions on the gums, necrose tissues of the hard palate,anorexia, depression, inability to move and hypersalavation. The affected areas appeared swollen, erythematous and foul smelling (halitosis) due to tissue necrosis and possible bacterial colonization.

The causes of the condition could be persistent periodontal diseases, malnutrition, metabolic disorders or systemic diseases. The treatment line includes fluid therapy due to prolonged anorexia, physical evaluation of the oral cavity suggested bacterial colonizations so the blood is collected for CBC diagnosis. Meanwhile the wound was flushed with chlorexidine and antimicrobial medications along with NSAIDs were prescribed. The owner was advised to return for the blood report and follow up treatment.
