On 22nd December, 2025 at 11:00am, we attended a case of ulcerated abdominal tumor on a 10 years old female dog named Ashi. The surgery was performed by Dr.Tshogyel Lhamo assisted by madam Karma and us, the interns.
Although confirmatory diagnosis to identify the specific type of tumor is not performed, the doctors ruled out it to be a mast cell tumor due to the characteristics of the tumor.
Mast cell tumor is a common type of skin cancer which involves cancerous growth of mast cells as a response to allergens. It appears as a mass or a lump on the skin which can become ulcerated over time.
Surgical approach includes asceptic preparation of the surgical site and the environment, anaesthetic drug administration and like any other tumors, electrocauterizer is being used to carefully excise the growth.
During the procedure we helped in sedation, preparation of the animal, anaesthetic drug administration, monitoring the vital signs, assisting the surgeon in maintaining a asceptic surgical environment and we also monitored the animal after the procedure to ensure safe recovery.
