Leviticus 1–14 describes how God called His people to live in holiness through sacrifices, priests, and laws about purity. The first seven chapters explain different offerings—burnt, grain, peace, sin, and guilt—that showed how sin breaks fellowship with God and how forgiveness comes only through a blood sacrifice. Chapters 8–10 tell how Aaron and his sons were set apart as priests to serve as mediators between God and the people, pointing to Christ as our perfect High Priest. Chapters 11–14 give laws about clean and unclean foods, diseases, and purification, teaching Israel that God is holy and must be approached with reverence.
These chapters reveal God’s covenant faithfulness and humanity’s need for grace. The sacrifices and rituals point forward to Jesus Christ, whose once-for-all atonement fulfills the entire sacrificial system and makes believers holy before God, emphasizing salvation by grace alone through faith.
We enter into our rhythm of LEARN, READ, INTERACT.
From How to Read the Bible through the Jesus Lens, Michael Williams makes these points about Leviticus:
Phrase: Life in God's presence
Theme: God instructs his people how to live in his presence.
Christ-Focus: The holiness of Christ admits us into God's holy presence (Hebrews 7:27).
Implications: We must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as we live in God's presence (2 Peter 3:11-18).
Questions: Are you cultivating a life of holiness? What does such a life look like today?
