This week, we will enter the "John track" and read through the first 12 chapters of John, which focus on Jesus as the Son of God and the only way to salvation. John begins by describing Jesus as the Word of God who was with God from the beginning and became flesh (John 1:1, 14). This emphasizes Christ’s divine nature and role in creation.
Throughout these chapters, Jesus performs miracles, such as turning water into wine (John 2) and raising Lazarus from the dead (John 11), revealing His sovereignty over creation and life. He also teaches that salvation is through grace alone, not human effort, as seen in His conversation with Nicodemus about being born again (John 3:3-7).
These chapters call believers to trust in Christ as the only Savior, relying on God’s grace rather than human works.
Let's enter into our rhythm of LEARN, READ, INTERACT.
From How to Read the Bible through the Jesus Lens, Michael Williams makes these points about John:
Phrase: Union with God
Theme: Jesus, the Word, is God.
Christ-focus: Jesus and the Father are one (John 10:30).
Implications: We have union with the Father through Jesus Christ (John 17:20-23).
Questions: How close do you feel to God? How closely do people associate you with God? How does your union with God affect your behavior?
