In Week 2, we will work through the rest of the gospel of Luke. In Luke 11-24, Jesus continues his ministry, teaching about prayer, faith, and living a life that honors God. In Luke 11, he shares the Lord's Prayer and emphasizes the importance of persistence in prayer. Throughout these chapters, Jesus confronts religious leaders who oppose him and warns about hypocrisy. He tells parables like the rich fool and the prodigal son, illustrating God's mercy and the dangers of greed and pride.
As Jesus journeys to Jerusalem, he teaches about the kingdom of God, urging people to repent and follow Him. In Luke 19, he enters Jerusalem as a king, but faces increasing opposition. The final chapters (Luke 22-24) focus on his arrest, trial, crucifixion, and resurrection. Jesus' sacrifice brings salvation, and his resurrection shows his victory over death. The Gospel ends with Jesus commissioning his followers to spread the good news and his ascension into heaven.
We enter into this week's readings with our rhythm of LEARN, READ, INTERACT.
From How to Read the Bible through the Jesus Lens, Michael Williams makes these points about Luke:
Phrase: Costly Saving
Theme: The Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.
Christ-Focus: Jesus came to give his life to bring life to sinners (Luke 22:19-20).
Implications: With the strength God provides, we must be ready to endure hardship to bring the gospel to the lost (2 Timothy 2:1-10).
Questions: How much would you pay for your salvation? Has your faith cost you anything? How much would you be willing to pay for someone else's salvation?
