A Peist is known to have been a very large amphibious worm, dragon, or serpent, that used to live in Ireland. Peist would live at the bottoms of lakes and have been claimed to have been sighted by humans. One of the serpents depicted in the legend of St. Patrick, St. Patrick drove all the serpents out of Ireland, including the Peist.
