An organized military force named the Aegis. It is essentially the guardians, protectors of the Dragon race. They are well trained, well disciplined soldiers. Like everyone that wishes to join, they would have to go through a difficult process of indoctrination into the Aegis. They are recruited in two ways: Either by volunteering, or being offered a position. Depending on the operation, the Aegis can operate in small groups akin to Special Forces tactics, or operate in military wide operations. Some are voluntary, some are mandatory. Most often the average soldier will join or create a group that is few in number, roughly between four to twelve others, and operate inside that group. The Aegis offers four primary positions: Commander, Pilot, Gunner, and Scout.
Joining is simple. Those who want to join, go down to the recruitment center and begin a battery of tests, to make sure the individual is level headed and physically capable. After pre-screening, the individual is whisked away off to training in their job for three months. Once their training is complete, they gain their first rank and are official members of the Aegis. They can either be put in a team automatically or they can volunteer to join. If they were recruited by an existing member they may join that team.
When one becomes proficient at the position they choose, the individual receives that part of their emblem (head, tail, etc) at its first level. The individual does not automatically receive all parts to the rank system, it must be earned by training and becoming proficient in that job. It is meant to show the level of skill. There is otherwise a blank space where the given rank would be. While the first rank is given freely, earning a promotion is done by applying the skills in real situations, not by just learning the skills itself. So a rank one Gunner can be proficient in rank two Gunner skills, but will not receive the actual promotion on their uniform until it is applied in a real situation.
Rank is applied to both shoulders, but when earning a special rank (such as Chudiroata, etc) that symbol replaces the standard rank on the left shoulder only.
Commanders are the centralized leaders of the other ranks. They organize tactics, keep the others in the know of what is going on by relay of information, like a nexus. They may go wherever they feel to get a better picture of what is going on, even if that means fighting on the front lines to access the situation. The symbol of Commander represents the head of a dragon.
Horns are added on top, issued to a low level commander. The most they can command is roughly a dozen others on a relatively small ship. They hold no power outside their immediate peers.
Ship Commanders are capable of running a few small ships of their own. They have shown their worth as a good leader in war.
These are the ones who know what they are doing, and have shown a lot of worth being the central nervous system of a ship. These are respected individuals that have risked their lives at one time or another for the race as a whole, or have made bold war winning decisions.
Only a few dragons can have this rank at any given time. Drarus is one those for establishing the entire military. These voices resonate across the entire organization, and operate like a council. Non-singular, but even a single voice from this rank carries great power.
They drive ships around! The higher the rank, the larger the wings, the more experience they have. Their rank represents the wings of a dragon. When combined with the Scout rank, they are upgraded to a specialized scout infantry division that works with mechanized robots (they are still referred to as Pilots).
These are your basic pilots. Limited to driving small scout vessels, and small ships. Typically they have adequate skill required to pilot these in a combat environment.
These ones carry the experience to pilot larger ships to a limited ability, and have now become more of an expert in maneuvering small ships.
Well trusted pilots. A few of them put together can drive the largest ships in the Aegis. Alone they are capable of extremely precise maneuvering in tight quarters with large ships.
The elite among fliers. These dragons can drive any ship with confidence in themselves and from others.
Gunners handle the guns of the ship they work in. They handle things from space ship to ship combat, to space to ground strikes. As well as AA defense. The symbol is appears as the body of the dragon and is the center piece.
A level 1 Gunner is not responsible for anything that can cause major collateral damage. Mainly they control smaller arms on the ship, perform air recon for ground troops, and are the direct 'gunners' that handle ship to ship combat.
Sky gunners are permitted to coordinate small scale air strikes, and light orbital strikes. Generally they are allowed to provide support with heavier armaments.
Star Gunners are permitted to use high power orbital strikes and use weaponry otherwise deemed too dangerous without proper skill and training. These weapons are the deadly destroyers of continents.
Master Orbital Gunners are as they sound. Masters of orbital strikes. They have the best resources, the biggest guns, and are capable of destroying entire worlds if they wished to.
Scouts are foot troops that work in a variety of different things. From simply observation, to heavy combat and many inbetweens. They can infiltrate deep behind enemy lines, or even so much as act as eyes for designating a target more precisely. It is often the most helpful job in the Military and the most dangerous. Their rank resembles a dragons tail.
Generally more common, Scouts, despite the name come in a large variety of sub professions. It is nothing more than a foot soldier with basic knowledge and training of the given profession. They tend to be stuck at this rank because of their lack of actual combat experience. Most will be on the front line to test their prowess for the first time
Veil Scouts are more experienced, better equipped than the former. They have done well in combat to have earned this and can now operate in smaller groups if they wanted to.
Stalker Scouts are some of the tougher more durable ones, they have been through multiple missions, have had at least some combat experience and are capable of operating independently of other elements. Some at this level move over to the private sector as most in the private sector are higher ranking.
THE best of the best, bar none. These Scouts have done unspeakable things with their power. Smart and extremely capable, they handle things and consider all kinds of outcomes before acting. If one of these guys are with you. Today is going to be a good day.
