To the Council of Grognards,
This is a summary of our continued exploration to the southwest and northwest of the tower between the dark tributary and the middle tributary of the Black River. We also explored south of the dark tributary as well.
The following Guild Journeymen participated in this scouting/mapping mission: Hamfast, Chillax, Manawa, Novad, Rolen, and Wenzan.
We set out the 32nd of Frostmarch from the tower and explored the remainder of the dense forest near where we discovered the River Tribe of Goblins. The forest is extremely dense west of River Goblins. Even simple travel is difficult. We finished exploring the dense forested area on the 1st of Winterdeep.
We continued exploring to the southwest. The thick forest gave way to a marshy and forested area. It is in this area that we were attacked by a Shambling Mound. It was resistant to fire due to the extreme water content. It would hit us with tree limbs and vines. We were able to defeat the mound. We continued exploring in the this area for two more days. We encountered two large greenish creatures that reminded one of us of trolls in the ancient stories. These trolls were about 9 feet tall and quite strong. The forested area had thinned and become less marshy or swampy by the time we were attacked by the trolls. We followed their tracks back to their cave after defeating the trolls. The area was littered with Goblin bones and bones of other small animals. We did find a bunch of coins in the cave.
The 4th of Winterdeep we crossed the dark tributary of the Black River. The river was about 40 feet across where we crossed. The river was more than 10 feet deep and had steep banks. There was plenty of dead wood trees around to fell in order to make a bridge across the river. Once we crossed the dark tributary, we continued exploring and discovered the home of the Wolf Tribe of Goblins. We tried talking with them, but their leader did not want to talk. The tribe had set up traps for us in advance. We had a small battle against 11 Goblins. Ten of the Goblins rode large Worgs (like wolves but larger). The leader Goblin rode a large White Wolf. We were able to slay the leader and 5 other Goblins. Once the leader was defeated, the rest retreated. There were too many in their camp to warrant an attack at the moment. In fact they seemed to be mobilizing their entire tribe. We left to return to the tower via the ford area of the tributaries more due south of the tower. We did recover some more coins from the slain Goblins.
We made it back to the tower during the evening of the 7th of Winterdeep.
Journeymen Hamfast, Chillax, Manawa, Novad, Rolen, and Wenzan each received a share equivalent to 23 Gold, 5 Electrum, 7 Silver, and 228 Copper.
