To the Council of Grognards,
This is a summary of our expedition to explore the remnants of a town half-day journey south of the Tower.
The following Guild Journeymen participated in this scouting/mapping mission: Chillax, Manawa, Euphie, Demrius, and Wenzan.
Euphie, Demrius, and Wenzan delivered the two wagons with supplies from Rockport to the tower without incident. We arrived at the tower the second night after leaving Rockport.
We headed out from the Tower the next morning. We followed a discolored section of the grassy plain south out from the tower area. The different section of the grassy plain led to areas that were easy to ford over the middle fork and the westernmost fork tributaries to the Black River. The remains of the town were located about an hour or two south of the westernmost tributary.
The different grassy section appeared to be like a road. The path was wide and very even and level. We investigated this and dug down through the soil to discover flat stones that formed a previous road that is now covered in soil and grasses to a depth between six inches and a foot.
The town consisted of twelve main building areas and a statue. All that remains of the buildings are the stone structures. Some of the buildings have some collapsed walls. The roofs and doors are all gone. I have provided a detailed drawing of the town. Euphie completed the drawing. Buildings 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 11, and 13 have the most intact stone walls. The stone construction is similar in nature to that of the tower. The paths are mostly all overgrown. Shrubbery has grown and become wild without trimming. Some shrubs and hedges are beginning to look more like trees. In the center of what was most likely a courtyard is a stone statue.
The stone statue appears to be a human male dressed in somewhat of a noble manner. The statue and its pedestal are from a single piece of stone. The man’s face has a serious tone/expression. The clothing has a style that is unfamiliar. The statue has the man holding a walking stick and perhaps a dagger in a scabbard. A ring appears to have weathered away from one of the fingers on the statue. The statue is located south of building 11 and between the two buildings marked 10 on the map.
We found a family of three creatures living in the cellar of the tower in building 7. We have provided a sketch of this type creature. It is not a creature we have encountered previously. The family appeared to be parents with a small child/offspring.
We traveled west along the southern edge of the Black River Tributary for the remainder of the day. No additional locations to ford were found. While exploring the area between the town ruins and the river tributary we were attacked by 7 creatures riding wolves. These 7 creatures were like the family found in the town ruins. We were able to defeat them. We released the last remaining creature. We could understand what the creature was saying, but could not get him to fully understand us. The creature said that we were the ancient ones and had they known, we would not have been attacked. Unfortunately for this creature, we saw that it was attacked and eaten by a Griffin shortly after leaving our location. All of the weaponry had knapped stone blades or arrow tips. The had daggers, short bows, a few axes, and clubs. The wore leather armor and were adorned with trinkets and necklaces of bone and teeth of other creatures.
These creatures carried coins that were not made in the Empire. These coins were minted with human visages and writing in common. The dates were not discernible. Some coins were made from copper, some from silver, some from gold, some from electrum, and some from platinum.
We spent the next two days exploring the area surrounding the town ruins. There were no other threats discovered in this area. We returned to the tower that fourth night.
Here ends the summary of this four-day exploring mission.
