“Brightpaths is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to preventing all forms of child abuse and neglect by building safe and stable families through education, connection, and support. They serve families in Clarke, Barrow, Jackson, Madison, Oconee, Oglethorpe, and Walton counties.” (Brightpaths website)
The UGA College of Environment and Design collaborated with Brightpaths to generate a new and improved site design to support Brightpaths in their mission.
From our research, we know that healing landscapes and interactive playscapes promote parent-child connection and social connection and support between caregivers. Experiences with nature and play have been shown to be good for healthy child development and resiliency in negative situations. Based on our site analysis and feedback from community members, we know there is a necessity for accessible landscapes that facilitate safety and greater opportunity for connection.
