The goal of this project was to create an environment to foster healing, relaxation, and rejuvenation on Advantage Behavioral Health Systems campuses, Athens, GA.
Several initial site visits were completed with the client to discuss client needs and analyze the different characteristics of the site, from drainage to sunny vs. shady areas. Research was done on how to cultivate landscapes for healing, and case studies were examined. Following the initial research and analysis stage, an online survey was sent out to employees who work at Advantage Behavioral Health to gather data on how the site was currently being used and how they wanted to use the space. Different aesthetics were even grouped in initial surveys to get a better idea of design preferences.
Following the initial investigation, several design concepts were developed and then during an in-person volunteer event, a few trees and shrubs were planted as well as daffodil and tulip bulbs to begin landscape improvements. Participants in the volunteer day provided feedback on the initial design concepts for further iteration.
A final master plan was developed as a result, with specific areas designed in more detail. The hope is that the community can implement this master plan in phases over the next several years to improve the current outdoor areas to foster healing and recovery for all individuals.
