Summary: The Squads with Autonomous Teammates – Competition (SWAT-C) project seeks to improve survivability and combat effectiveness of a squad-sized element by developing human-drone teams capable of conducting reconnaissance, delivering payloads, or providing kinetic effects as required. Culminating in a force-on-force competition between Army and Navy, the intent of the project is to understand how autonomous teammates can be integrated with a squad in urban terrain and evaluate the efficacy of various technologies and integration tactics. The team designed and built ground and aerial platforms integrating technologies such as limited autonomy, remote weapons operation, machine learning and object recognition.
