At the north west of the Zentravalk, the temperate, almost flat feudal kingdom is the home of Chivalrous Knights and wine. Most peasants live under the rule of their local noble, appointed by the closest lord. The King , currently Jean Francois “The moon”, resides in The Royal Palace in the capital of Soleitour. The living of the average person is hard, always one bad harvest away from starvation.
The nobility ranges from spoiled toys with effortless jobs, court wizards , or a lifelong trained knight . A few men at arms are trained and kept as part of the noble´s obligations, but by far most of the foot soldiers are militia with barely any knowledge of how to use their spears and bows.
The extensive coastline leads to the second well known thing about the kingdom, their pirates. So called Bukans, these peoples thread between honest traders and outright sea bandits. The nobles of the land make very little effort to stop them, some even benefit from their existence, using them in their petty wars or as mercenaries for greater enterprises.
Spellcasters are admired within the kingdom, most of them being nobles, second sons educated into wizards by the coin of their families. Many different schools have sprung to cover this need for power, although necromancy and pact making with patrons from beyond is heavily frowned upon both by commoner and noble. Naturally gifted peasants are half forcibly enrolled into and made useful into the King's personal school at Soleitour, their families are well paid to not feel their loss.
The major rivals of the Normand Kingdom are its own petty nobles, if they are not squabbling for a internal power struggle their neighbors to the east, south and north are their secondary existential threats. Across the river Cecoule lies the Blessed Maronnian Empire, Down south through the Stule mountain passes one can reach the Halvedain League, and though the southern coast of Normand one can reach the northernmost city states of the thalic Peninsula. To the north, across the cold sea lie the Islands in the Fog, from which very little is known as no one has ever set foot on them and came back to tell the tale. Finally , south and to the west the Kingdom shares a frontier with the Crown Counties, in which small war is more than common.
Of the many noble houses, Wizard schools and bard brothels there is none more well known as the House of Garbunn. Hailing from the city with their own name, this is the wealthiest noble house of the whole kingdom, with a whole Duchy, 3 baronies and countless lesser titles under their banner they are also one of the most influential houses as well. Their monopoly of the land trade routes with the Maronnian empire and the Halvedain give them de facto control over the country´s gold and silver supplies, their ownership of Leflaind, the second biggest port city, also makes them a respectable sea power in their own.
The Garbunnian retinues consist mostly of wood elf professional soldiers and war mages . Of renown are their famous Centur Fournier, once centaur tribesmen as lancers for their knights, all of them kitted with the best gold can buy. Their distinct look of red brigantine, golden laced capes , longswords , lances and carved longbows make them shin in any battlefield they find themselves. The head of the Family is the Duke Alphonse “Dubald” the second. Their nobles, however, are the exemplar of spoiled rotten, and are more fond of the business of coin, wine and women than the duty of the sword and the lance.
