Awoken by The Divine Emperor of Shenghuang during its descent from heaven, crabfolk are a race of humanoid crabs that strode ashore in the Southern Provinces shortly after the emperor's descent. much like the provinces they live in, they are mostly independent, and were left to their own devices as long as they complied with the bureaucracy. Often employed as fishermen, sailors and shipbuilders, they take key roles in the naval efforts of the empire, often ensuring the ships of the trade fleets are kept in top shape by doing tasks that would otherwise require the ship to be put on drydock.
Crabfolk intermingle with wider imperial society to an extent that their names are derived from usual Shenghuang names, that being chinese names.
