In the northern wastes where the snow never relents, an ancient people and their awakened once hunters eek an existence in the ruins of things greater than they have ever made.
The Shinsei are made up of the Kor that inhabited this land before the arrival of the Divine Emperor, kodan that awoke due to his presence, and a minority of humans in the southernmost cities, where the snow is less unforgiving, where they are kept as serfs with little to no rights. Kor are by far the most numerous, as despite not being forged to survive in the cold wastes, they refuse to leave the almost abandoned derelicts that make the cities of the far north.
Shinsei, much like most of the far northern coast, is plagued by dozens of cities, many of them barely populated. Local legends and written religion speak of a great abandonement, as those "Braver, purer, and more deserving" left in a mythical voyage for a higher cause. This tale is also the founding stone of the Shinsei pantheon, dedicated to the worship of the moon, the stars, and the path towards enlightement in their dedication.
The shogunate was quick to declare itself independent once the emperor dissapeared, but whilst the Shogun is the indisputed military ruler, most of the administrative functions are run by the high priestessess of the Shinsei Pantheon. The current shogun is Daewang Shinseong the Cold, a Kor of measly fifty four years of age renown for his ruthless tactics in wartime. His firstborn daugther, Princess Dalnim, alongside her sisters and priests raised from the commoners, are the actual rulers of the shogunate.
The backbone of the economy is ran by human serfs in almost slave conditions, who produce most of the wheat and food. The Kor middle class that does not fight is often employed as craftsmen, enchanters or other highly skilled trades, whilst the kodan dedicate themselves to the hunt of rare animals in the cold wastes.
Still, their numbers are low, and their enemies many. To defend the vast front against the Marannor, the Meiji and the Tetzuan, fast cavalry and solid infantry are needed, known as the singisu. In the cities, kodans and humans are armored head to toe, with bludgeons and javelins being their favorite armament. The kor make up the bulk of the more prestigious navy and cavalry, wearing medium armor, but armed with hookguns and firelances. In times of war, these two forces are repeatedly utilized as hammer and anvil, with clerics of the shinsei pantheon providing eyes and ears in the battlefield.
