Between the Sea of Monsters and the Sea of Tar lies a kingdom of Dwarves and mountainmen who learned kinship under the sun, and weathered all the storms time has thrown at them, together.
The Dominion of Amrots lies at the tail end of the Asker mountains, sandwiched between the Asker tribes and the Heptarchy of Sahrán to the south, the Seytanlar Emirate to the east, except two mountain forts in the north and south that box the Emirate in, and to the north they face the dreaded Chogtor Khaganate. Their people is made out mainly of mountain dwarves and goliaths, with earth genasi, aaracockra and lizardfolk being subtle minorities. All put together, they are around one hundred thousand, a surprising amount for a mountain kingdom, all thanks to their mastery of underground mushroom and root plantations.
The history of Amrots is as early as the world. In the early days the dwarves dug their homes in stone and settled in, weathering the storms of the war in heaven. As stars fell, so awoke the Asker, and quickly both peoples came to blows. What set the Amrotians apart was that cooler minds prevailed, and friendship was set between the peoples to weather in order to survive a foe that has been lost to time. It was during this time of shared struggle that these peoples became one, and that Siktaoskar the Great Golden Dragon became aware of them.
Siktaoskar, meaning "The Gift of the Sun" showed the ancestor worshipping dwarves and shamanistic Asker the faith to Lathlander, the lord of light. This quickly became the faith of choice for the new people, and whilst Siktaoskar would eventually leave after assisting them in defeating the forgotten enemy that crept out of the deepest caves, the faith of Lathlander would evolve to shape them.
The Amrots have integrated the Ancestor worship and totem shamanism into the religion to Lathlander, a thing that is often ignored by their most steadfast ally, the Istvani Empire, in order to avoid needless wars with what is otherwise a very loyal friend. Friends being what the Amrotian lack, for outside the Istvani, few other nations will ever assist them, and they are surrounded by evil. The Anatols to the east turned to be conquerors and slavers, making some wish that they killed them all during their passage trough their lands to freedom. The Seytanlar are neutral, when they are not practicing necromancy or other evils. The Asker want to raid them, whilst Sahrán and the Chogtor Khaganate are the worst of all evils in the eyes of the Amrots. Such constant state of siege has turned the Amrotians into steadfast defenders, wary of any outsiders.
Theirs is a theocratic domain, dedicated to the good of their people and the light of Lathlander. The ruler holds the title of Arka, who is the ruler of the capital of Amráz ,elected amogst the Ishkhanat, The Ishkhanat are rulers of regional cities, which are themselves elected amogst the Ishkhan, the senior warrior-priests of fortress-temples. The Arka has in theory no limitations, but at any moment any Ishkhanat can demand a re election, which the Ishkhan can do to them as well. This happens incredibly rarely, but has thus far made it so Amrots has never faced a civil war.
The Faith to Lathlander is supreme, and whilsts priests and clerics are plenty, it is almost mandatory for them to face their enemies in battle. All evils are actively hunted, though it is incredibly rare for any to take root in the society where cooperation and solidarity is an expectation.
In battle, the dominion of Amrots finds itself always outnumbered, having many places to defend. They preffer to defend their holds and mountain passes, clad in heavy runed armor, casting spells and pelting javelins at their enemies. Of renown are the Monaspa, a warrior order under the service of the Arka who act as warrior-priest shock troops. Their preffered kit is the heaviest armor they can obtain, the biggest tower shield, spears, javelins and mauls. A wall of stone and iron awaits anyone who dares attack the mountainfolk of Lathlander.
