A decade after the dissapereance of The Divine Emperor, whilst the Marannor raided and the shogunates fought each other, a fleet of ships with dhow sails and strange peoples , who took land for themselves with violence. But as soon as the war ended, when their shaken foes were preparing for a counterattack, offers of peace were given, with plenty of gold and gems to apologize for the lost territory. After suffering a few defeats, the invaded nations begrudginly accepted the new faction in the continent, one which spared no time in mending relations.
The Meiji are comprised of eladrin elves from the seelie court, high elves , halfings and genasi from Altyn Nehir, and loxodon from Mahanna. Their mighty warhost was led by a branch of the Arvàn family of high elves, who by reasons that are lost to history, left their ancestral home in the sultanate of a thousand temples and took to the sea, with plenty of ships and money.
The Meiji claim control over a small province of what used to be the Shinsei Shogunate, the Fumeishi and Shiroi islands. Thanks to their swift ships and deep knowledge of magic, any contests to this authority have failed to hold up to military might.
The Meiji are ruled by a Princess, who from the beggining has been Zarin Arvàn the Golden, a high elf with at least one milennia in this world, named after the extravagant way she displays his grandure. Under her, various nobles from prominent families divide the tasks of running this emergent state. The Nehirese pantheon has been brought over from the sultanate, though Sune has been replaced by Selune, in the Arvàn fashion. This has been mixed with the local folklore , the worship of The Divine Emperor, and the Shinsei Pantheon which also holds Selune over all other deities.
The average inhabitant of the Meiji will live a comfortable land, taxation is low on the peasants and conscription is rarely called upon, as the Meiji do not embark on offensive campaigns. In the rare ocassion that force is needed, the professional navy is called first, bringing the might of the princess wherever she commands. Since the Meiji were quick to adapt the local magics and brought their own, they are considered to be above any but the Divine Bureaucracy, although their ships have been proven to err in the ligther side, rarely withstanding the mighty rams of the Shinsei or Tetzuan fleets.
Within sight of the mainland lies an island shrouded in mist, one that appeared the same day the emperor vanished and that has not ceased ever since. The Meiji conquered it, but left immediatly thereafter, leaving the locals to fester with all the things the island attracts.
Fumeishi Island has a native population of humans and tieflings, but peoples from all over the world flock to it as if the island itself summoned them. Tritons from the Shabuluk Shogunate and the far distant Ostzee Republic, humans from Sahràn, Altyn Nehir and the Island of Alevaz. A melting pot of peoples, all with ambitions from beyond this world.
The Meiji police this island from afar, refusing to even land troops onto it. Offers of taxes and other tithes are made from the island to the principality, but the capital has always refused them. It is well known that in Fumeishi, one can learn many magics deemed unsafe, or if one is willing to pay the price, unthinkable.
