Separating the lands of Mahanna and the Divine empire are many mountain chains, peaks rising above the clouds, with temples and shrines forgotten to time. It is in this desolate land that many peoples find wisdom, shelter, and many things the world forgot.
The Malshan mountains are populated by the awakened animal races that fled the Divine Empire to their east, englightened apelings with their human followers from Mahanna to their west, and the original dwellers, the goliath. Apart from the pressure of the gigantic powers they are in between, there is little that unites the people in the mountains. A thousand sects, cults, philosophies and villages trying to be unbothered eek an existence in this land, be it in the valleys, cold forests , wet jungles or mountainpeaks.
No philosophy, deity, practice or magic is forbidden in the mountains, for there is little in the way of governance or order. Many warlords have attempted to reign in a few villages and fortresses, only to be overwhelmed by the other inhabitants, temporarily allied under the banner of bringing this existential threat to their independence. A few milennia of this cycle repeating has left the Malshan Mountains filled to the brim with abandoned fortresses, shrines, temples and villages, many inhabited by beasts, or dark things coveting ancient artifacts. Such a danger has turned its populus in experts in protecting themselves against these threats, most commonly in the form of Yaoguais and Mogwais. When war comes at the mountain`s foot, small skirmishes are what is seen, but the real skill of the mountainmen is outlasting any invader.
