The jewel of the anatol people whomst very few are part of, but most of them profit from. A land conquered by the sharp sword, the sharper mind, and the mysterious acts of fate. All this things the Anatol empire is, but in between the hordes of skeletons working in mines and the horrors subjects are put trough if they dare rebel, this young empire flourishes with leaders who might be cruel, but are also pragmatic, wise, and very curious about all things magical.
The anatols themselves are formed by humans and tabaxi, who passed trough the mountains of Amrots escaping their Chogtor masters. Trough battle , cunning tactics and one year of unstopped victories they made themselves with most of the eastern domains of the Istvani empire, thus holding domain over the Istvani citizens, which are most of the populace. The asker aaracockra, goliath and lizardfolk were subdued shortly thereafter.
The emperor sits at the top of the power pyramid, with its court being formed by anatol warlords assisted by many istvani scholars, sages and administrators. Some say that this is still the Istvani Empire, but now it is the savages that sit at the throne. Such a description ignores what sets the anatols apart from other horsemen tribes.
Unlike the violent gyamars, or their friends the loyal turannor, the anatol are curiuous to learn, some would say too much. Whilst economics, philosophy, history and architecture are interesting topics, they have learned of the usage of necromancy, and employ it widely troughout the empire. Crystals guarded by priests and monsters control thousands of undead toiling away in mines, farms, or other back breaking labors.
Slavery is commonplace, and they frequently raid the istvani and other nations to the west in order to obtain them. The oficial faith of the empire is that one to Alsham, the desert god of order, which they utilize only to subdue the chaotic effects of mass usage of necromancy and slavery, to the point that they have been declared heretics by the Caliphate of Auropolis.
In battle, the Anatol Empire fields hordes of undead, Asker mountainmen together with their enslaved beasts and adept battlemages and priests, but very few anatols. Given that most of the anatols do not live under the command of the emperor, they are used sparingly in battles, and left off to do raiding by sea and land, a task the other forces of the empire are ill fit to carry.
Their undead hordes are slow to move and governed by crystals that they protect dearly, but they act as the perfect hammer for the anvil that is their monstrous slaves, such as the giant calishan or the cunning pislik. Of renown are their Gergedan Sipahi, riders of gigantic wolly beast with a single pertruding horn and their slim flying vessels, which they load to the brim with the most skilled battlemages and other flying summons.
Roughly a decade after the end of The Calamity many weird sigthings were reported in the domains of House Saburnikos. People, be them commoners, nobles, soldiers, mountainmen or bandits, suddenly left their life and carried into the desert mountains with what they had in their backs. From one day to another, without explanation, multiple people from a city would make it into the Asker mountains and never come back. Search parties were assembled, and eventually some found groups of complete strangers travelling together. When asked about their doings, they claimed to be searching "The Truth" with no more explanation on the matter.
This strange occurence went on for decades, to the point of alarming administrators due to the bleeding of people. The practice was forbidden, people were put to jail and chained. Some managed to escape, the ones who did not and could not, refused to eat and drink until they perished.
This occurence carried on to the Anatol Empire, who became more interested in the matter. Torture yielded no results, neither the usage of magic to read thoughts. Even worse for the Anatols, the killed wandering thousands would not rise up when undead rituals were done upon them, nor did their blood become useful for blood sorcery.
Having no way to stop these folk and seeing no harm in their wandering, the Anatol empire was set on letting them be. Thus, people as far as from the Beylik of Sahil can be seen wandering to nowhere, somehow surviving the harsh climate and dangerous creatures with less than what beggars have.
The wandering thousands shy away from combat at every opportunity, showing themselves to be talented climbers and travellers. Within seconds one will lose them from sight in the mountains, and some tales have arisen of them dissapearing with a gust of wind in the dunes. They have very few words to share with others, although they are open to aid people in need, with as many tales existing of them helping people get away from threats, or find the way back to civilization.
