Awoken by The Divine Emperor of Shenghuang during its descent from heaven, the pangolian are a race of sturdy, well rounded race , retaining many of the gifts of animalhood whilst being fully sentient. They can be separated into two subspecies, the
The Divine Emperor wasted no time in putting them to use. In the northern armies they serve as builders and engineers, specializing in sieges where their thick scales can better protect them. In the heartlands, they are left to harvest the fruit of trees, and hunt small game with sling or javelin.
Pangolian intermingle with wider imperial society to an extent that their names are derived from usual Shenghuang names, that being chinese names.
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
Age. Pangolians mature around 5 years of age and rarely live past 70
Alignment. Most Pangolians are true neutral or have some aspect of neutrality in their alignment.
Size. Pangolians vary widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet for the tree-dwelling females to well over 7 feet tall for the ground-bound males. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.
Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Natural Armor. Your large, tough armor plates provide incredible amounts of protection and cover your head, back, arms, tail, and lower legs. Your AC is 14 + your Dexterity modifier. However, because of your naturally large and awkward armor plates, you cannot wear armor. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.
Keen Smell. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Imperial and one other language of your choice.
Ability Score Increase. As a Tree-Dweller, your Dexterity increases by 2
Out of Reach. You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed, as your tail and claws are uniquely suited to climbing trees and walls to stay away from potential threats.
Able Scout. You have proficiency in Perception and Stealth.
Prehensile Tail. Your whip-like tail can be used for more than just climbing . You may spend your bonus ation to make a 10ft jump. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.
Ability Score Increase. As a Ground-Bound, your Strength increases by 2
Dig Deep. You have a burrowing speed equal to your walking speed, as your claws are uniquely suited to digging through the ground to create dens for young Pangolians and forage for food. While underground you are blind to anything happening on the surface.
Able Forager. You have proficiency in Nature and Survival.
Brutish Tail. Your hefty, tail counts as a flanged mace for the purposes of weapon properties and masteries. You may use it as an off hand weapon, as long as no other weapon is wielded in your off hand.
