BMC’s Dedication to Promoting Clean Energy
As part of its dedication to the SDG7, which focuses on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all, BMC has significantly expanded its clean energy initiatives in 2024. Recognizing the critical role clean energy plays in fostering sustainable development and mitigating the impacts of climate change, BMC has continued its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, promote renewable energy, and integrate sustainability into its academic and community outreach programs.
Promoting Renewable Energy
In 2024, BMC advanced its commitment to renewable energy by upgrading its energy-efficient lighting systems, further lowering energy consumption. The ongoing investment in energy-saving infrastructure not only reflects BMC's dedication to reducing its carbon footprint but also serves as a living example to students of the benefits of clean energy technologies.
As part of this commitment, BMC has incorporated energy management systems that monitor and optimize energy use across all campus buildings. These smart systems enable real-time tracking of energy consumption, providing valuable data that helps reduce waste and promote efficient energy usage.
Integrating Clean Energy into Education
BMC continues to integrate clean energy concepts into its curriculum, ensuring that students are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to sustainable energy solutions in their future careers. As part of its 2024 academic offerings, BMC has expanded its environmental science and public health programs to include modules focused on clean energy technologies, renewable energy policies, and sustainable energy management.
In addition, BMC’s Clean Energy Campaign, organized by the Radiologic Sciences program in collaboration with the Social Responsibility Unit, raised awareness about the benefits of renewable energy. This campaign aimed to educate the BMC community about the importance of transitioning to clean energy and the environmental advantages of reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The campaign reached students, academic staff, and external partners, fostering a deeper understanding of the role clean energy plays in environmental sustainability.
Community Outreach and Engagement in Clean Energy
BMC has extended its clean energy initiatives beyond campus, engaging with the local community through workshops, seminars, and outreach programs that promote clean energy practices and sustainability. In 2024, the college collaborated with local environmental organizations to organize events like the Green Jeddah Planting Initiative, which underscored the importance of environmental conservation and clean energy in the fight against climate change. This initiative, held at AlSorour Public Park, engaged students in hands-on environmental activities, such as planting 200 seedlings, and raised awareness about the importance of renewable energy in building a sustainable future.
Additionally, BMC’s Founding Day Planting Initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, reinforced the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability. This initiative involved planting over 1,000 sprouts in Jeddah University, emphasizing the connection between renewable energy use, environmental protection, and community responsibility.
Collaborations for Clean Energy Solutions
BMC actively seeks strategic partnerships with local and national organizations to further its clean energy agenda. By collaborating with government bodies and NOGs, BMC has been able to implement best practices in clean energy utilization and increase its impact on sustainable development. These collaborations facilitate knowledge exchange and the development of innovative solutions to clean energy challenges.
One notable partnership in 2024 was BMC’s collaboration with Jeddah Municipality during the International Volunteer Day Walkathon. This event, which took place at Jeddah Waterfront, aligned with BMC’s broader environmental initiatives by promoting healthy, sustainable lifestyles and raising awareness about clean energy and its role in enhancing the quality of life. By engaging students and staff in these collaborative efforts, BMC not only encourages community involvement but also highlights the importance of transitioning to sustainable energy sources for a healthier future.
