BMC's Commitment to Mental Health Support
At BMC, mental health is a key focus, and the college has committed itself to enhancing the psychological well-being of students, faculty, staff, and the community. In 2024, BMC expanded its mental health support through a variety of initiatives, creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone.
Central to BMC’s commitment to mental health is its Psychological Clinic and Counseling Unit, both of which provide individual and group counseling services. These facilities offer help with issues like academic stress, anxiety, relationship challenges, and personal development. The psychological clinic, led by experienced consultants and counseling psychologists, provides accessible care to
anyone in need. It utilizes multiple communication channels to ensure that care is available whenever it is needed. Counseling sessions include traditional individual and group therapies, as well as holistic approaches like fitness classes, yoga, meditation, Zumba, animal-assisted therapy, and music therapy, all aimed at promoting overall mental wellness and resilience.
Beyond one-on-one consultations, BMC regularly conducts workshops on important topics like "how to achieve mental, psychological, and behavioral stability." These interactive sessions provide participants with tools to build mental strength and cope with life’s challenges. The Counseling Unit also offers a safe and confidential space where students can access both psychological and developmental support, tailored specifically to their needs. Whether dealing with academic or personal struggles, the unit is a pillar of support, fostering a culture of understanding and care on campus.
Another central element of BMC's commitment to mental health is its role in promoting scientific research and initiating cross-sectoral dialogue demonstrated by the Mental Health Research Forum 2024. Under the title of "Strategies for Sustainable Wellbeing," brought together a variety of stakeholders, including mental health professionals, students, and community members, to discuss innovative mental health research and evidence-based interventions.
BMC's commitment to mental health extends beyond its own community through partnerships with organizations like the Waad Therapy Center. On World Mental Health Day, BMC and Waad Therapy Center joined forces to organize community service campaigns aimed at educating the public about mental health conditions. These initiatives, supported by BMC staff and student volunteers, were successful in raising awareness and breaking down the stigma around mental health. The campaign's outreach emphasized the importance of understanding mental health issues and the value of seeking help.
BMC also engages students in innovative initiatives to promote mental health awareness in a creative and inclusive way. Events like "How to be an Influencer" provided a platform for students to share inspiring messages and foster a supportive community. This event's interactive format, which included audience participation and group activities, demonstrated BMC's dedication to ensuring that every individual feels valued and heard. Similarly, the "Wear Your Feelings" event, held during Mental Health Awareness Day, offered students a unique opportunity to express their emotions through clothing. It was more than just a fashion show; it was a celebration of individual expression and a deep connection with human emotions. By sharing the stories behind their outfits, students were able to connect on a meaningful level, highlighting the importance of open discussions about mental health.
BMC's collaboration with community organizations, workshops, creative events, and the work of its psychological clinic all underscore the institution's dedication to fostering an environment that supports mental health and well-being. These efforts are aimed not only at helping individuals cope with challenges but also at building a community where mental health is prioritized and embraced as a fundamental part of overall well-being.
