Involvement in National Government SDG Policy Development

BMC’s involvement in national government SDG policy development is an indication of its commitment to social progress and educational excellence. The institution has strategically aligned itself with various sectors, ministries, and significant educational and healthcare entities to ensure a holistic and impactful contribution towards achieving the SDGs; Moreover, its vision is aligned with Saudi Vision 2030.

Cross-Sectoral Dialogues: Conferences and Forums

BMC’s Scientific Research Forum 2024

One of the most notable events in 2024 was BMC’s Scientific Research Forum, titled “Scientific Research and SDG Compass: Keep a Focus on Integrated Perspectives.” This forum showcased BMC's dedication to integrating research with the SDGs, reflecting the institution's mission of linking academic excellence with global development goals. Held on February 15, 2024, the forum brought together researchers, healthcare professionals, and students from diverse backgrounds to discuss how research can be translated into practical applications aligned with the SDGs​.

The forum addressed a wide range of topics, including health and environmental sustainability, emphasizing how science can contribute to solving pressing global issues. Key themes of the conference included health and well-being, clean water and sanitation, and climate action, which align with SDG3, SDG6, and SDG13. These discussions highlighted the crucial role that research and innovation play in driving progress towards sustainable development.

Throughout the event, BMC underscored the importance of fostering interdisciplinary collaborations to address global challenges. Researchers and healthcare professionals from national and international institutions participated, with representation from universities in Australia, Germany, England, and Egypt as well as many other regional universities and national authorities. These partnerships further illustrate BMC’s commitment to broadening the scope of research and addressing complex global issues through collaboration​.

Mental Health Research Forum 2024

Other central elements of BMC's contribution to SDG 17 is its role in promoting scientific research and initiating cross-sectoral dialogue. These activities are best exemplified by the Mental Health Research Forum 2024, which was held in October 2024. The forum, titled "Strategies for Sustainable Wellbeing," brought together a variety of stakeholders, including mental health professionals, students, and community members, to discuss cutting-edge mental health research and evidence-based interventions.

BMC's 4th Middle East Education and Training Exhibition (MEETS)

This exhibition held earlier in 2024, which also represents a significant milestone in its commitment to creating international partnerships. MEETS provided a platform for BMC to engage with educational institutions, health organizations, and other stakeholders in the MENA region to promote best practices in medical education and healthcare​. This event directly supports SDG 17 by encouraging knowledge sharing and international collaboration.

Conferences Promoting Collaboration for the SDGs

BMC's participation in GETEX Dubai 2024 and the 14th Annual Gulf Education Conference & Exhibition emphasized the importance of fostering partnerships within the education and healthcare sectors. These events allowed BMC to connect with various stakeholders, share research

findings, and discuss strategies for improving the educational and healthcare landscapes through innovation​. The college also highlighted the importance of sustainability within healthcare and medical education through these discussions.

Moreover, building on its successful history of engaging communities in meaningful discussions, BMC continued to host TEDx conferences in 2023 and 2024, which functioned as another path for promoting cross-sectoral dialogue. These events gathered a wide range of participants, from healthcare professionals to students and innovators, who shared insights on topics such as health equity, education, and the role of technology in sustainable development. TEDx events at BMC allowed for open conversations on the challenges faced by society and the potential solutions, aligning with SDG 17’s emphasis on partnerships​.
