Características generales:

  • Es una especie fanerógama de la familia Acanthaceae.

  • Es originaria de América central y de México.

  • Es un arbusto que alcanza 16-22 m de altura.

  • Sus tallos son erectos y poco ramificados.

  • Las hojas son grandes, de hasta 20 cm de largo por 10 de ancho; simples, opuestas, de peciolo corto, forma lanceolada, casi elíptica y ápice apuntado.
