TAP The Audiology Project
Quelle: The Audiology Project
TAP is an American project, based in North Carolina. TAP began by defining diabetes related hearing and balance issues.
First goal is to have all persons with diabetes (PWD) receive a baseline hearing test and a balance screening when they are first diagnosed with diabetes, and then monitored for best audiological medical management of this chronic disease.
The Centers for Disease Control and the American Diabetes Association are now recognizing the co-morbidity of diabetes and hearing/balance problems.
The Audiology Project is committed to educating healthcare professionals about this invisible handicap.

TAP's South African Cohort aim to advocate for the inclusion of audiology in diabetes care through the following:
Capacitating audiologists with contextual relevant resources such as local research to be used as an advocacy tool.
Assisting audiologists with planning evidence-based screening programs within their respective clinics for hearing monitoring of patients with chronic diseases.
Working in collaboration with professional associations and diabetes agencies so that the messages is spread widely.
