Exploring Insomnia Through AI

Exploring Insomnia Through AI.

The blog "All About Insomnia" delves into insomnia in various species, highlighting the shared experience of sleep issues in humans, cats, and dogs, and considers the possibility of insomnia in robots. The writer explores the emotional and behavioral aspects of insomnia, thinking about if robots are able to acquire similar complexities and how they could help people deal with insomnia.

The author's acknowledgment of insomnia as a complex issue, involving both physical and emotional elements, which is the key highlight of this reflection. The author challenges the traditional view of robots as lacking emotional complexity by relating insomnia to it, urging readers to think about how robots could evolve to replicate human emotions that we often feel from insomnia. And on this topic I would like to introduce a hypothethical work to extend this blog post.

Interactive Art Installation: EmoSomnia

In this exhibition, visitors are invited to engage with a AI-driven installation that simulate the experience of insomnia from emotional perspectives like the blog explained.

The bots generate a range of emotional responses typically associated with insomnia. Visitors interact with humanoid robots programmed to express feelings of excitement, anxiety, restlessness, and exhaustion, offering a glimpse into the emotional trajectory of sleeplessness.

The emotional responses of the robots are not scripted but instead generated in real-time based on the context of the interaction and the visitor's behavior.  This reflects the complex interplay of thoughts and feelings that characterize insomnia nights.

Through "EmoSomnia," participants gain a deeper understanding of the emotional trajectories of insomnia, 'contradicting' the notion of the blog post that robots are only emotionless entities and to further help with empathy towards those who struggle with sleep disorders.
