Dancing Bots by Sanne Dekker
A blog written about Dancing Bots by “Sanne Dekker” caught my attention. She highlights the importance of dance as it is an important way to help people bond, communicate, and also entertain. She rightly mentions that dancing is not only meant for human beings but it is suitable for certain artificial creatures as well.
Dancing is defined as “moving the body and feet to music.” Now it is not always necessary for an artificial creature to contain body parts, however, they can move to the beat of the music with whichever limbs they possess.
As Sanne states, the purpose of dancing among artificial creatures is typically for entertainment and she further questions the benefits and additions it may bring to the human dancing entertainment industry. For me, another underlying theme emerges—the communicative and bonding aspects of dance. Across the animal kingdom, dance serves as a language of courtship, communication, and social cohesion. Inspired by this natural phenomenon, we are compelled to imagine artificial creatures designed not only to entertain but also to communicate and bond through movement.
Picture a scenario where artificial entities engage in a dance of interaction, exchanging rhythmic movements as a form of communication. One creature initiates a sequence of movements, prompting responses from others searching for an exchange of expression. This choreographed dialogue creates a new dimension of communication embracing the universal language of movement. Look at dance as a means of communication and bonding, opening a new perspective on communication and bonding mechanisms among all sorts of creatures.
