I know, now

I know photographs can't breathe,

but as you're staring back at me, I swear that I can hear your heart beat.

Content with being present was something I'd never achieved,

before fleeting moments made me feel like the world was only you and me.

I know that we were always out of reach.

That's why going back always felt so easy.

You were never mine to keep,

still our limbs intertwined in the possibility.

I know that you'll be hard to beat;

that I'll wonder about you until the earth stops spinning beneath my feet.

I'll think of how you made me feel so light and free.

How we giggled when we said that we weren't meant to be.

How calm I felt in your company.

I know you'll never know what you mean to me,

thinking you were one of many, as for you

I may have been.

I know, now,

there isn't anyone in the world like you.
