How to write a love poem

First I’ll describe every attribute of you

in the most fantastical way possible

Your eyes will turn from black to blue

Your faults become selling points

Your maneuverers become a ballet dance

even if you’re walking in a straight line

When you're standing,

you become a statue of gold

I’ll insert some synonyms here,

some antonyms there.

Overused similes here

quirky metaphors there.

If I'm sad,

I’ll just flip the adjectives.

I’ll blame everything on me,

even though I have no idea what’s going on.

I’ll write that my world has darkened,

whilst sat with my computer on full brightness.

I’ll add some quotes in foreign languages ;

Latin, to make the poem seem old,

and therefore reputable,

or French,

to distract you from the poem’s

lack of depth.

A fool-proof strategy, to let you fall for the poem.

How do you not realise

that all these have been said countless times

by countless mouths,

written by countless pens and pixels

read by countless eyes.
