Las inscripciones de inner: La experimentalidad constelativa de Luis Kertch

   “Inner Lanscapes”, el título de una de las muestras de Luis kertch capta bien y comunica la lógica principal que en mi consideración atraviesa las obras visuales del artista en años recientes entendidas como un todo estético.

Ello nos invita a pensar en que “Inner” es el tiempo suspendido, en un lado, el tiempo del proceso, el tiempo procesual que transcurre “aquí y ahora”, en otro lado, inner es el ahora intemporalizado, vuelto un “continuum suspendido” a la no duración, es el tiempo abierto a la espacialidad pura en que fluye sin medidas cada vez en micro instantes, pero inner es también el todo evocado en su temporalidad fractalizada, como ese todo se refleja a la vez en una sola dimensión, tanto para la subjetividad que vivencia ese tiempo suspendido, procesual, como para el quantum de mundo que fractalizado para esa subjetividad participa junto a ella.

   Reflejado en la sensibilidad para esa subjetividad, inner parece entonces hacer fluir juntos al sujeto y al objeto (pintor/paisaje-percepción/imagen percibida, signo/objeto) en el ES de ese tiempo suspendido, una relación sujeto/objeto que se torna a la vez micro interactiva y constelada.

   La obra visual de Luis Kertch, sobre todo en años más recientes es a la vez una abstracción sensorial y conceptual de lo antes dicho, formas de volverlo presencia visual, con la filosofía que ello supone vuelta inclusiva a esa visualidad, es una exploración de este fenómeno y de cómo la subjetividad puede no sólo captarlo y abstraerlo, sino volverlo presencia expresada. 

   Pero sabemos que el sentido de ese todo constelado que obtenemos de la relación entre un tiempo suspendido, procesual, fractalizado, y un todo que se vuelve sublime derivado de ello, no hace presencia ante nuestros sentidos en el modo de una palpable sensorialidad que admita al pintor una representación mimética o refleja de un estado en sí coseico de ello visto allí afuera, de su objetividad dada en el mundo percibido, antes bien llega Luis en sus pinturas a ello a través de una abstracción, una abstracción que debe abstraerse del dato puro de lo observado, que debe moverse y explorar así más allá de la mera observación.

   De hecho, fuera del ámbito literal de ojo y lo visto, para alcanzar desde allí la abstracción, la obra visual de Luis Kertch se las arregla para a la vez, es decir, sincrónicamente, al mismo tiempo, ser ella abstracción sensorial y abstracción conceptual en un mismo gesto, por un lado concepto sensorializado, por el otro, sensorialidad conceptualmente abstraída donde ambas cosas el sujeto (sensorial, perceptivo, emotivo, intelectivo) y el objeto (percibido, sentido, palpado, visto, reflejado, reflexionado) vienen juntos uno en el otro.

   No se trata en la obra visual de Luis Kertch de la retina que distingue el ojo que percibe de la imagen percibida, antes bien, en un sentido, se trata a veces de captar el gesto de la presencia, o bien la presencia de la imagen misma entendida ella como una forma del gesto, una gestual que no puede seguírsele con la vista, sino con todos los sentidos sincrónicamente acompasados e intertraducidos.

   En ocasiones ello deriva en Luis en traducciones abductivas, una traducción de la tactilidad hipotética –, por ejemplo, donde lo visto allí afuera a lo lejos, aunque está al alcance de la mirada no lo está del tacto, pero el contacto perceptible entre la brisa y lo matérico, por ejemplo, o entre la luz y la textura, sugiere una idea de tactilidad que el pintor abstrae abductivamente por medio de un aural idealizado, de una hipótesis abductiva, como le llamaría Peirce, la cual es traducida luego por el artista a un campo visual atmosférico.

   Hegel decía que la luz es presencia. Si la apagamos ya no nos vemos. Hacemos presencia en la imagen gracias a la luz y todo hace presencia según ella o en torno suyo.

   La exploración del tono, más que de la luz, lo que traducido al sonido sería el timbre, vendría a ser unas de las claves de la exploración de Luis, el tono, como sabemos, en lo visual es valor y el valor es entonces Luz.

  En pocas palabras se trataría aquí de captar que la primacía de cierto sentido de la luz en el discurso visual de Kertch no se refiere a la relación luz/retina, no es la Luz explorada ella en sí misma desde una inmediatéz perceptiva, sino antes bien, una exploración de la relación entre la presencia y la Luz, relación que Luis investiga a través del tono o la tonalidad, entonando.

  Esa relación entre presencia y luz en la medida en que es investigada vía sensorialidades abstraídas y conceptos sensorializados, busca, hace la pesquisa, halla heurísticamente en las telas de Luis ese cómo la presencia misma de la imagen es ella gesto.

   Los Paisajes de Luis son así “Paisajes ideales”, como en el “yo” del idealismo alemán en ellos el “noúmeno”, es decir,  el mundo en sí, aquello palpable, visible en su coseidad,  es captado según la subjetividad, es decir, según su fenoménico o fenomenalidad pues el mero mundo en sí de noúmeno es pura sustancia, mera materia, coseidad a secas, el mundo de la subjetividad del artista es en cambio inmaterial, ideal, por ello los paisajes de Luis parecen como de una cierta inmaterialidad, como desmaterializados, como espirituales o del alma.     

   Pero aunque la interioridad ideal de un mundo ensimismado, inmaterial, su propio mundo subjetivo, rige por sobre la coseidad objetiva en Luis, no se trata tampoco en sus telas de un sujeto del todo autoremarcado sobre sí mismo, autocentrado, que está frente a un objeto que le es del todo exógeno o exterior, como si se tratara de dos cosas extrínsecas, extrañas una a la otra entre las que media un alto contraste.

   Por el contrario, aunque rige la subjetividad y su fenomenalidad, sujeto y objeto se indistinguen por momentos en sus telas, se fusionan, se alterizan en la obra visual de Luis Kertch, pasan incluso uno en el otro, el adentro se torna a veces afuera y el afuera se torna por momentos adentro, más no en términos representacionales, podemos ver acá el recuadro y allá algo que sugiere horizonte o plantas, en un lado el todo y en el otro sus partes, pero lo interno ensimismado de la subjetividad, de la subjetividad que el artista vive y expresa en sus telas, con sus figuras simbólicas introspectivas, sus atmósferas interiores a las que no llega la luz externa, se impregnan de la kinésis y la cinésis del noúmeno henchido en luz del mundo en sí y a la inversa, en aquello que hace la presencia gesto.

   Ósea, por un lado, el sentido que obtenemos de una brisa que parece dejar indicios sobre las impresiones sensoriales de una masa botánica, o de un algo orgánico vegetal, arcilloso, o arenoso, por ejemplo, parecen por momentos impregnarse de la subjetividad del artista y sus impresiones, sus gestos, sus itinerarios, sus símbolos, y al revés, las figuras internas de la subjetividad, parecen impregnarse en sus indicios del noúmeno mismo de ese mundo natural, del sentido en aquel de la brisa o la luz.

  Es como si sujeto y objeto pasaran uno al otro liminalmente, intersticialmente, como si el adentro del primero y el afuera del segundo intercambiaran sus lógicas, el adentro es a veces afuera y el afuera es por momentos adentro, así los paisajes de Luis entendidos en su referencialidad denotativa, el supuesto mundo allí afuera a que se refieren, parecen de una subjetividad como si la imagen que nos da la tela del noúmeno del mundo natural se impregnara de la subjetividad de la mirada, de la impresión interior y a la vez es como si esta última captara y expresara quedar acariciada por gestualidades que le llegan de aquella relación entre brisa y materia, entre luz y textura. Fenoménico y noúmeno danzan pues en las telas de Luis Kertch.

   Nos preguntamos, de hecho, ante un gesto que vemos al primer plano en la tela, o ante una serie de gestualidades, si ellas captan el gesto aquel propio a la kinésis de la naturaleza en su noúmeno (su naturaleza en sí) o bien si expresa la subjetividad vuelta gesto que emana del fondo o la fuente del mundo interno del artista, y nos respondemos que una cosa va en la otra, que ambas se vehiculizan y se traducen.

   El mundo fractalizado captado desde la temporalidad de inner no es pues modelo para Luis, no podría serlo además cuando la idealidad de “Inner Lanscapes” lo presupone a él en sus instantes, es decir a Luis mismo como cuerpo sensorial, el mundo visto lejos de ser modelo es en realidad en algunas piezas de Luis inspiración, móvil desde el cual sus formas obtienen la fuente de su génesis, en otras, su idealidad abductiva, es decir, una hipótesis de mundo constelada por la subjetividad del pintor.

  La obra visual de Luis Kertch, su búsqueda, su experimentalidad, su lenguaje plástico, y su investigación, radica en ello, en cómo pueden trabajar juntas vueltos tonos, atmósferas, gamas, nomenclaturas mórficas y gestos, esos conceptos sensorializados y esas sensorialidades conceptualmente abstractivas.

  El interés en el concepto es de cierto modo antiguo en Luis, data desde su exposición “Tres visiones y una realidad” para la cual tuve el privilegio de escribir un ensayito de catálogo en 1994, “Barniz en la memoria”, expuesta entonces en galería La Florida en Caracas y ese mismo año en New York, obras sobre las cuales será necesario volver más adelante debido a cómo trabajaba en ellas la relación entre memoria, subjetividad y materialidad.

  Pero lo novedoso en ese giro tremendo que ha dado la obra visual de Luis Kertch hacia los interfaces e inscripciones de inner, hacia la temporalidad del proceso, y hacia la constelación de universos entre su subjetividad y el mundo, es cómo el artista se las arregla para, con un sentido casi botánico de ese mundo allá visto, dar y asir al final universos de composición paradójicamente culturalistas.

  Esto me remite al lugar que encuentran la presencia y el gesto en el paisaje japonés donde lo más natural resulta ser al mismo tiempo paradójicamente lo más ritual y ligado a simbolismos culturalistas sobre una determinada subjetividad y sus tradiciones culturales.

  Es pues, primero, Luis mismo justamente quien constela la relación entre lo fractal y un todo otro sublime envuelto en el tiempo suspendido de ese proceso, que su obra evoca, justo porque inner no es otra cosa que relación entre un instante de temporalidad para la subjetividad y un quantum fractalizado de mundo vuelto intemporalidad o tiempo suspendido, el sentido que ese todo supone para la subjetividad ensimismada sólo es proyectable por esta última heurísticamente.

   Visto así, interpretado, leído y comprendido así, cada obra de Luis viene a ser entonces resultante de cómo constelar ese sentido de un todo sublime en el que la viñeta que la obra obtiene sobre la naturaleza lo es como si se tratara de un microcinema de la relación interactiva entre él y ese mundo, obteniendo una conjunción entre experimentalidad, subjetividad y mundo que cada vez, en cada obra, constela una síntesis entre naturaleza y ritual, entre imagen botánica, mundo y cultura.

  Como en el sonido ritual de la flauta tibetana,  que escucho en este mismo momento mientras visualizo las piezas de Luis y mientras escribo sobre ella, donde lo ritual y la naturaleza se unen en una síntesis que es a la vez subjetividad, naturaleza y tradición, sus paisajes son ideales aunque cargados también de un sutil simbolismo y son así pues espirituales.

   Este viaje lo hace pues la subjetividad del pintor quien por un lado debe captar cómo subjetividad y objetividad quedan constelados entre la temporalidad suspendida de inner, fractalizada al instante, y ese todo otro sublime, que cada pieza propone como un todo estético, como composición.

   La objetividad es entonces deconstruida, como muy brillantemente sostiene el mismo Luis Kertch en el título de otra de sus muestras, más no por un sujeto que está ante el objeto altamente contrastado como un mero perceptor, reflejo, mimesis, replica, representación, objetivo ante ella, sino por una subjetividad que ha de dar cuentas en un lado de ese tiempo procesual, redimiéndolo, elevándolo a ese sublime que obtenemos de un sentido del todo que sólo puede ser evocado por sus telas.

   Cada obra de Luis como composición es pues una forma de esa evocación.

   Como decía Stephen A Tyler es la evocación como alternativa a la representación.

   Pero es también la “voz media” si lo vemos desde el punto de vista de la gramática en la oración donde sujeto y objeto no están más separados pues el sujeto está siempre envuelto en un proceso en curso o en lo que Husserl y luego Schütz llamaban “la vivencia noética”, esa que fluye y se desvanece ante nosotros, frente a la vivencia noemática, que es aquella reconstructiva y relacionada a la memorización en un segundo nivel de aquella primera vivencia que fluye.

   Habría aquí que subrayar la importancia del concepto de memoria en la obra de Luis sobre el cual por cierto puse el énfasis en mi ensayo anterior, hay aun que revisitar aquellos muros, aquel sentido de una memoria subjetiva de la materia visible en sus piezas por ejemplo del puente donde aparece además el “tondo” o formato circular y ovalado (que proliferó en la Florencia del siglo XV) y una cierta indexicación de la tela según coordenadas tales como la escritura de la palabra Figura 1, etc., es requerido volver sobre aquel arte suyo de los noventas para leer por capaz arqueológicamente lo que aun ocurre en sus paisajes de hoy con el sentido de la superficie, del soporte, de las áreas, de la textura y la materia sobre todo en las piezas más abstractas.

  Luis evoca mediante las inscripciones de inner que el artista debe experimentalmente mediar, la tela misma debe leerse y sentirse como interfaces de indicios de las inscripciones de inner, es transformar las telas en interfaces de esa interacción entre Luis y el mundo, su tarea es por un lado orbitar esa constelación donde subjetividad y objetividad son relativizados y dejarla ser lenguaje en la tela, en telas que deben ellas ser cada una evocación y voz media.

  Los viajes de ese relación entre concepto sensorializado y sensorialidad abstraída se encaminan a ir proponiendo resultados que son, por supuesto, reportes en un punto determinado de esa búsqueda, poniéndose a sí mismo el artista en el lugar de ese testimonio, que no es otro, paradójicamente, que el testimonio de la experiencia o de la experimentación de ese tiempo suspendido, de ese proceso, es por ello resultan así en las telas de Luis Kertch relevantes él “desde donde”, el “lugar”, el “sitio”, como vemos en algunos de sus títulos, “desde la isla”, “desde las islas del sur”, pero también el día, el momento, el instante, más no como el tiempo objetivo y envolvente de la relación entre una duración y estancia o un habitad, sino como eclipse de sus inscripciones.

   Es la idea del explorador, que tenemos también en el espeleólogo, en figuras como Humboldt, por ejemplo, pero también  en el arqueólogo.

   Es como si Luis Kertch restituyera tanto el sentido de la presencia aquí y ahora, de ese tiempo suspendido del proceso, que su propia presencia allí se volviera un happening.  Si inner no hace presencia en una palpable sensorialidad y esa dimensión constelada es solo alcanzada por las abstracciones del sujeto mediante evocaciones, la tarea del pintor es entonces evocar esa constelación en cada obra, ello debe ser logrado como un alcance de la subjetividad, como un hallazgo o resultado, como algo que se conquista o se obtiene, como algo también que se propone, las telas de Luis son así al mismo tiempo interfaces e hipótesis abductivas, son, como ocurría con el romántico inglés Turner, testimonios de una exploración donde la relación de la subjetividad con la naturaleza deviene ella misma en cultura, como decía antes, es similar a cómo ocurre con la pintura tradicional de paisajes japoneses, aunque también en China, o con la música del Tíbet donde el ejercicio ritual de captar la unión de subjetividad, temporalidad y el transcurrir universal de la naturaleza se transforman en viñetas culturales de la espiritualidad y la ritualidad de una tradición.

   No olvidemos por ejemplo el énfasis de Schelling principal filósofo del romanticismo en una relación estrecha entre naturaleza y mitología.  

   Sus paisajes son así, entonces, a la vez ideales y rituales.

   La relación al tiempo suspendido como atención al proceso y la relevancia del lugar aunque  entendido menos como habitad, aproxima y emparenta en varios sentidos las exploraciones de Luis Kertch y aquellas de la tejana Terrell James menos inclinada al paisaje y más enfocada también como Luis en la subjetividad. Menos referencial a la relación entre subjetividad, naturaleza y cultura, la exploración de Luis también recuerda lo que hallamos en el tejano Virgil Grotfeld donde tenemos una imbricación entre subjetividad, botánica y cultura.  

   En occidente esto fue el romanticismo que ciertamente nadie como Turner captaba mejor en lo visual, pero que halla sus expresiones más elevadas en la filosofía idealista alemana, es también lo que ocurre con la relación entre subjetividad, experiencia, materia, gesto y memoria en el abstraccionismo matérico de Tapies.

   Se mueve así Luis con sus paisajes culturológicamente hablando entre los parámetros de su propia sensibilidad como subjetividad diaspórica, por un lado, pintor mexicano, de nacimiento, pero también español, de vida, y por qué no, venezolano de largos años de su vida y carrera, tanto como americano e inglés de sus tempranos estudios en el Pratt, su master en ciencias de la comunicación en new york y sus estudios de arte en Florida.

   No deja sin embargo su obra, si la vemos respecto al arte mexicano, de invitar a escogencias con pinzas aquí y allá en ciertas obras no frecuentes pero si esporádicas de algunos pintores mexicanos de generaciones anteriores a la suya, pienso por ejemplo no ya en José María Velazco, tampoco en Diego, si bien Diego tiene dibujos de paisajes a línea muy sutiles y casi desconocidos que no dejan de sugerir vestigios de posibles afinidades con ciertos dibujos a línea de Luis, pero si por ejemplo, Luis Nishizawa: “Los dones cultivados”, Paisaje Tepoztlán, dibujo en tinta, 1988, 2022, Arozarena de la Fuente, Movimientos tectónicos,  o Relieves, así como artistas jóvenes como Lilia Carrillo o Julio Barrit.

  De la misma forma en Venezuela donde Luis vivió años importantes y se inmersionó de lleno en su arte, podrían mencionarse referencias a los paisajes de Manuel Espinosa así como la luz en Armando Reverón.

  Por otro lado en ninguna otra cultura ha adquirido un mayor desarrollo la relación entre abstracción y paisajes y las intercepciones que se dan en Luis entre Informalismo Abstracto y paisaje que en España siendo Luis mayormente viviendo entre baja California y Tenerife un artista también español. Mercedes Managre, por ejemplo, por mencionar sólo una. Pero Luis Kertch resulta tanto respecto a una generación como a la otra un caso único, original, en cierto modo una isla exploratoria.

   Conceptos, nociones, ideas, sentidos del lugar y los sitios, tales como Inner Landscapes, Objetividad deconstruida, Tres visiones y una realidad, Paisajes Emocionales,  Atlántico, Playa las Conchas, Camino Montaña Colorada, Casa de Campo Madrid,  Contemplación,  Hoy fue Domingo,  Zona Maco, Punta Gorda, From the north of the island, Jardín botánico, Momento, Atlantico sand. Tarde desde la isla, Inmerso en el camino, Recuerdo del Manzanares, Ardiente aura, Mas allá del Maguey, Luz, horizonte y muro, El jardín imaginado o Un Collage del Recuerdo, así lo explicitan.

   Los sentidos sensoriales, abiertos a la presencia del instante se dilatan, escuchan, no sólo lo palpable sensorial, sino aquel inner que vuelve el sentido del todo como de esa otra temporalidad suspendida, el proceso que transcurre aquí y ahora, es a la vez vivido más intensamente, y redoblado, es decir, vuelto sublime a través de esa repetición en que lo que transcurre no está sólo atendido en su inmediatéz sino conciliado con el tiempo constelar, Derrida decía aludiendo a Husserl, “lo más transcendente es el transcurrir de vida”. Aquí algunas referencias cruciales podrían ser John Cage, Antonie Tapies y Cy Tombly.

   “Inner Lanscapes”, the title of one of Luis Kertch's exhibitions, captures well and communicates the main logic that in my opinion runs through the artist's visual works in recent years understood as an aesthetic whole.

This invites us to think that “Inner” is suspended time, on one hand, the time of the process, the procedural time that passes “here and now”, on the other hand, inner is the timeless now, turned into a “suspended continuum”. "to non-duration, it is time open to pure spatiality in which it flows without measures each time in micro instants, but inner is also the whole evoked in its fractalized temporality, as that whole is reflected at the same time in a single dimension, both for the subjectivity that experiences that suspended, processual time, and for the quantum of world that, fractalized for that subjectivity, participates alongside it.

   Reflected in the sensitivity to that subjectivity, inner then seems to make the subject and the object (painter/landscape-perception/perceived image, sign/object) flow together in the ES of that suspended time, a subject/object relationship that becomes both micro interactive and constellated.

   The visual work of Luis Kertch, especially in more recent years, is at the same time a sensory and conceptual abstraction of the aforementioned, ways of turning it into a visual presence, with the philosophy that this implies an inclusive return to that visuality, it is an exploration of this phenomenon and how subjectivity can not only capture and abstract it, but also make it an expressed presence. 

   But we know that the sense of that constellated whole that we obtain from the relationship between a suspended, processual, fractalized time, and a whole that becomes sublime derived from it, does not make presence before our senses in the way of a palpable sensoriality that admits the painter a mimetic or reflective representation of a thing-like state of it seen out there, of its objectivity given in the perceived world, rather Luis arrives at it in his paintings through an abstraction, an abstraction that must abstract from the pure data of what is observed, which must move and thus explore beyond mere observation.

   In fact, outside the literal scope of the eye and the seen, to reach abstraction from there, the visual work of Luis Kertch manages to simultaneously, that is, synchronically, at the same time, be sensory abstraction and conceptual abstraction. in the same gesture, on the one hand a sensorialized concept, on the other, conceptually abstracted sensoriality where both the subject (sensory, perceptual, emotive, intellective) and the object (perceived, sensed, palpated, seen, reflected, reflected) come together one in the other.

   In the visual work of Luis Kertch it is not about the retina that distinguishes the perceiving eye from the perceived image, rather, in a sense, it is sometimes about capturing the gesture of presence, or the presence of the image itself understood as a form of gesture, a gestural that cannot be followed with the eye, but with all the senses synchronically rhythmic and intertranslated.

   Sometimes this leads Luis to abductive translations, a translation of hypothetical tactility – for example, where what is seen out there in the distance, although it is within reach of the eye, is not within reach of touch, but the perceptible contact between the breeze and the material, for example, or between light and texture, suggests an idea of ​​tactility that the painter abstracts abductively through an idealized aural, an abductive hypothesis, as I would call it. Peirce, which is then translated by the artist into an atmospheric visual field.

   Hegel said that light is presence. If we turn it off we won't see each other anymore. We are present in the image thanks to the light and everything is present according to it or around it.

   The exploration of tone, more than light, what translated into sound would be timbre, would be one of the keys to Luis's exploration, tone, as we know, in the visual is value and value is then Light. .

  In a few words, here we would try to capture that the primacy of a certain sense of light in Kerch's visual discourse does not refer to the light/retina relationship, it is not Light explored in itself from a perceptual immediacy, but rather , an exploration of the relationship between presence and Light, a relationship that Luis investigates through tone or tonality, intoning.

  That relationship between presence and light to the extent that it is investigated via abstracted sensorialities and sensorialized concepts, searches, does the research, finds heuristically in Luis's canvases that how the very presence of the image is a gesture.

   Luis's Landscapes are thus "ideal Landscapes", as in the "I" of German idealism in them the "noumenon", that is, the world itself, that which is palpable, visible in its thingness, is captured according to subjectivity, it is That is to say, according to its phenomenality or phenomenality, since the mere world of noumenon itself is pure substance, mere matter, mere thingness, the world of the artist's subjectivity is in immaterial, ideal change, which is why Luis's landscapes seem to have a certain immateriality, as if dematerialized, as spiritual or of the soul.     

   But although the ideal interiority of a self-absorbed, immaterial world, his own subjective world, rules over the objective thingness in Luis, neither is his canvas a subject entirely self-emphasized, self-centered, who is faced with a object that is completely exogenous or exterior to it, as if it were two extrinsic things, strange to each other between which there is a high contrast.

   On the contrary, although subjectivity and its phenomenality govern, subject and object are at times indistinguishable in his canvases, they merge, alter themselves in the visual work of Luis Kertch, they even pass one into the other, the inside sometimes becomes the outside. and the outside becomes inside at times, but not in representational terms, we can see here the box and there something that suggests a horizon or plants, on one side the whole and on the other its parts, but the internal absorbed in subjectivity, the subjectivity that the artist lives and expresses in his canvases, with his introspective symbolic figures, his interior atmospheres to which external light does not reach, are impregnated with the kinesis and the kinesis of the noumenon swollen with light of the world in itself and conversely, in that which makes the presence gesture.

   That is, on the one hand, the sense we get from a breeze that seems to leave clues about the sensory impressions of a botanical mass, or of an organic vegetable, clay, or sandy something, for example, seems at times to be impregnated with the subjectivity of the artist. and their impressions, their gestures, their itineraries, their symbols, and conversely, the internal figures of subjectivity, seem to be impregnated in their indications with the very noumenon of that natural world, with the meaning in that of the breeze or the light.

  It is as if subject and object passed into each other liminally, interstitially, as if the inside of the first and the outside of the second exchanged their logic, the inside is sometimes outside and the outside is at times inside, thus Luis's landscapes understood in their denotative referentiality, the supposed world out there to which they refer, seem to have a subjectivity as if the image that the fabric of the noumenon of the natural world gives us was impregnated with the subjectivity of the gaze, of the inner impression. and at the same time it is as if the latter captured and expressed being caressed by gestures that come to it from that relationship between breeze and matter, between light and texture. Phenomenal and noumenon therefore dance in the canvases of Luis Kertch.

   We ask ourselves, in fact, before a gesture that we see in the foreground on the canvas, or before a series of gestures, if they capture the gesture that is typical of the kinesis of nature in its noumenon (its nature in itself) or if It expresses the subjectivity turned gesture that emanates from the background or the source of the artist's internal world, and we answer that one thing goes into the other, that both are conveyed and translated.

   The fractalized world captured from the temporality of inner is therefore not a model for Luis, it could not be so when the ideality of “Inner Lanscapes” presupposes him in his moments, that is, Luis himself as a sensory body, the world seen far from Being a model is actually, in some of Luis's pieces, inspiration, the motive from which his forms obtain the source of their genesis, in others, his abductive ideality, that is, a world hypothesis constellated by subjectivity. of the painter.

  The visual work of Luis Kertch, his search, his experimentality, his plastic language, and his research, lies in this, in how tones, atmospheres, ranges, morphic nomenclatures and gestures, those sensorialized concepts and those conceptually abstractive sensorialities can work together. .

  Interest in the concept is somewhat old in Luis, dating back to his exhibition “Three visions and one reality” for which I had the privilege of writing a catalog essay in 1994, “Barniz en la memoria”, then exhibited in the gallery. La Florida in Caracas and that same year in New York, works to which it will be necessary to return later due to how the relationship between memory, subjectivity and materiality worked in them.

  But what is new in this tremendous turn that Luis Kertch's visual work has taken towards the interfaces and inscriptions of inner, towards the temporality of the process, and towards the constellation of universes between his subjectivity and the world, is how the artist manages to, with an almost botanical sense of that world seen there, give and grasp in the end paradoxically culturalist universes of composition.

  This refers me to the place that presence and gesture find in the Japanese landscape where what is most natural turns out to be at the same time paradoxically what is most ritual and linked to culturalist symbolism about a certain subjectivity and its cultural traditions.

  It is therefore, first, Luis himself precisely who constellates the relationship between the fractal and a sublime whole other wrapped in the suspended time of that process, which his work evokes, precisely because inner is nothing other than a relationship between an instant of temporality for the subjectivity and a fractalized quantum of world turned into timelessness or suspended time, the meaning that this whole supposes for self-absorbed subjectivity is only projectable by the latter heuristically.

   Seen this way, interpreted, read and understood this way, each of Luis's works then becomes the result of how to constellate that sense of a sublime whole in which the vignette that the work obtains about nature is as if it were a microcinema of the interactive relationship between him and that world, obtaining a conjunction between experimentality, subjectivity and world that each time, in each work, constellates a synthesis between nature and ritual, between botanical image, world and culture.

  As in the ritual sound of the Tibetan flute, which I hear at this very moment while I visualize Luis's pieces and while I write about it, where ritual and nature come together in a synthesis that is at the same time subjectivity, nature and tradition, His landscapes are ideal although also loaded with subtle symbolism and are therefore spiritual.

   This journey is therefore made by the subjectivity of the painter who, on the one hand, must capture how subjectivity and objectivity are constellated between the suspended temporality of the inner, instantly fractalized, and that sublime whole other, which each piece proposes as an aesthetic whole, as a composition.

   Objectivity is then deconstructed, as Luis Kertch himself very brilliantly maintains in the title of another of his exhibitions, but not by a subject who is before the highly contrasted object as a mere perceiver, reflection, mimesis, replica, representation, objective before her, but for a subjectivity that must account on one side of that processual time, redeeming it, elevating it to that sublime that we obtain from a sense of the whole that can only be evoked by its canvases.

   Each work of Luis as a composition is therefore a form of that evocation.

   As Stephen A Tyler said, it is evocation as an alternative to representation.

   But it is also the “middle voice” if we see it from the point of view of grammar in the sentence where subject and object are no longer separated because the subject is always involved in an ongoing process or in what Husserl and then Schütz called “the noetic experience”, that which flows and fades before us, compared to the noematic experience, which is that which is reconstructive and related to the memorization at a second level of that first experience that flows.

   It would be necessary to underline here the importance of the concept of memory in Luis's work, on which I certainly put emphasis in my previous essay. We still have to revisit those walls, that sense of a subjective memory of the matter visible in his pieces, for example. of the bridge where the “tondo” or circular and oval format also appears (which proliferated in Florence in the 15th century) and a certain indexing of the canvas according to coordinates such as the writing of the word Figure 1, etc., it is necessary to return to that art of yours of the nineties to read by someone archaeologically capable what still happens in his landscapes today with the sense of the surface, the support, the areas, the texture and the matter, especially in the more abstract pieces.

  Luis evokes through the inscriptions of inner that the artist must experimentally mediate, the fabric itself must be read and felt as interfaces of indications of the inscriptions of inner, it is to transform the fabrics into interfaces of that interaction between Luis and the world, his task is to On the one hand, orbit that constellation where subjectivity and objectivity are relativized and let it be language on the canvas, on fabrics that must each be an evocation and middle voice.

  The journeys of this relationship between sensorialized concept and abstracted sensoriality are aimed at proposing results that are, of course, reports at a certain point of that search, putting the artist himself in the place of that testimony, which is no other, Paradoxically, that the testimony of the experience or the experimentation of that suspended time, of that process, is why the “from where”, the “place”, the “site” are thus relevant in Luis Kertch’s paintings. we see in some of its titles, “from the island”, “from the southern islands”, but also the day, the moment, the instant, but not as the objective and enveloping time of the relationship between a duration and stay or a habitat, but as eclipse of their inscriptions.

   It is the idea of ​​the explorer, which we also have in the speleologist, in figures like Humboldt, for example, but also in the archaeologist.

   It is as if Luis Kertch restored so much the sense of presence here and now, of that time suspended from the process, that his own presence there became a happening.  If inner is not present in a palpable sensoriality and that constellated dimension is only reached by the abstractions of the subject through evocations, the painter's task is then to evoke that constellation in each work, this must be achieved as a reach of subjectivity, as a discovery or result, as something that is conquered or obtained, as something that is also proposed, Luis's paintings are thus at the same time interfaces and abductive hypotheses, they are, as was the case with the English romantic Turner, testimonies of an exploration where the relationship of subjectivity with nature itself becomes culture, as I said before, is similar to what happens with traditional painting of Japanese landscapes, although also in China, or with the music of Tibet where the exercise ritual of capturing the union of subjectivity, temporality and the universal passage of nature are transformed into cultural vignettes of the spirituality and rituality of a tradition.

   Let us not forget, for example, the emphasis of Schelling main philosopher of romanticism in a close relationship between nature and mythology.  

   His landscapes are thus, then, both ideal and ritual.

   The relationship to suspended time as attention to the process and the relevance of the place, although understood less as a habitation, approximates and is related in several ways to the explorations of Luis Kertch and those of the Texan Terrell James, less inclined to the landscape and more focused, like Luis, on the subjectivity. Less referential to the relationship between subjectivity, nature and culture, Luis's exploration also recalls what we find in the Texan Virgil Grotfeld where we have an interweaving between subjectivity, botany and culture.  

   In the West this was romanticism that certainly no one like Turner captured better visually, but which finds its highest expressions in German idealist philosophy, it is also what happens with the relationship between subjectivity, experience, matter, gesture and memory in the Tapies' material abstractionism.

   This is how Luis moves with his cultural landscapesgically talking between the parameters of your own sensitivity as diasporic subjectivity, on the one hand, Mexican painter, by birth, but also Spanish, by life, and by that No, Venezuelan from many years of his life and career, as well as American and English from his early studies at Pratt, his master's degree in communication sciences in New York and his art studies in Florida.

   However, he does not allow his work, if we see it in relation to Mexican art, to invite cautious choices here and there. in certain works not frbut sporadic ecuents of some Mexican painters from generations before his, I think for example not of José María Velazco, nor of Diego, although Diego has very subtle and almost unknown line drawings of landscapes that do not fail to suggest vestiges of possible affinities with certain drawings along the lines of Luis, but if, for example, Luis Nishizawa: “The cultivated gifts”, Tepoztlán Landscape, ink drawing, 1988, 2022, Arozarena de la Fuente, Tectonic Movements, or Reliefs, as well as young artists such as Lilia Carrillo or Julio Barrit.

  In the same way in Venezuela where Luis lived important years and fully immersed himself in his art, references could be mentioned to the landscapes of Manuel Espinosa as well as the light in Armando Reverón.

  On the other hand, in no other culture has the relationship between abstraction and landscapes and the intersections that occur in Luis between Abstract Informalism and landscape acquired a greater development than in Spain, with Luis mostly living between Baja California and Tenerife, also a Spanish artist. Mercedes Managre, for example, to mention just one. But Luis Kertch is, both for one generation and the other, a unique, original case, in a certain way an exploratory island.
