The Mother Tongue Department had an incredibly vibrant 2024, brimming with activities that celebrated our rich linguistic and cultural diversity! It was a year of joyful celebrations, deep dives into language, and exciting competitions that truly brought our mother tongues to life.
Here's a look back at our key highlights:
1. Cultural Celebrations:
Spring Festival Celebrations (February 2024): We ushered in the Lunar New Year with festive cheer, exploring the rich traditions and customs of this important cultural event.
Hari Raya Celebrations (April 2024): Our school came alive with the spirit of Hari Raya, fostering a sense of community and appreciation for Malay culture through lively festivities.
2. Mother Tongue Fortnight (typically February/March 2024): This dedicated period saw our students immerse themselves in their respective mother tongues through a variety of engaging, hands-on activities and workshops, deepening their connection to their linguistic roots beyond the regular curriculum.
3. Prestigious Competitions: Our talented students rose to the challenge and showcased their linguistic prowess in several notable competitions:
National Secondary Chinese Creative Writing Competition “Xin Lei Jiang”: Aspiring young writers honed their craft and presented their best literary works.
National Bilingual Creative Writing Competition: Students demonstrated their impressive ability to express themselves creatively in both their mother tongue and English.
拍写比赛 (Chinese Creative Writing with Photography): This unique competition combined the art of writing with visual storytelling, encouraging innovative expression.
Malay Language Blackout Poetry Competition: Students creatively transformed existing texts into powerful and original poems, highlighting their precision and artistic flair in Malay.
