Cohort visit to Museum
In commemoration of Total Defence Day, our Secondary 2 students embarked on a Museum-Based Learning (MBL) journey to the National Museum of Singapore. This enriching experience deepened their understanding of Singapore’s past and nurtured a stronger sense of national identity and citizenship beyond the classroom.
Students had many meaningful opportunities to engage with the museum exhibits and make connections to what they had learned in History lessons — from the lived experiences of locals during the Japanese Occupation to the events surrounding Singapore’s merger with and separation from Malaysia.
Historical Investigation
Historical Investigation (HI) is a key component of the Lower Secondary History curriculum, where students work collaboratively to conduct purposeful historical research. This year, our Secondary 1 students journeyed back to early 20th century Singapore to uncover the contributions of migrants through the intriguing stories behind street names. As part of their task, they created informative posters to showcase how these pioneers played a vital role in Singapore’s development.
Meanwhile, our Secondary 2 students delved into the inspirational stories of war heroes who stood their ground during the Japanese Occupation in Singapore, such as Elizabeth Choy and Lim Bo Seng. They brought these historical figures to life through engaging and creative skits that highlighted the values of resilience, courage, and resourcefulness demonstrated in the face of adversity.
Through the HI process, students not only honed essential soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, and time management, but also developed a deeper appreciation for Singapore’s rich historical heritage.
