Geographical Investigation
Geographical Investigation
At Springfield Secondary, the Humanities curriculum plays a key role in nurturing values such as empathy, responsibility, and social awareness through real-world inquiry. Our students from Secondary 1 to 3 embarked on meaningful Geographical Investigations (GI), each tailored to deepen their understanding of the world around them.
Our Secondary 1 students explored the school’s EcoGarden to study its physical features, biodiversity, and human impact. Immersed in nature, they learned about the importance of protecting green spaces in an urbanised country like Singapore. As part of their reflections, students also considered how nature spaces in Singapore can continue to be enjoyed by all, regardless of age or ability. They discussed the importance of responsible behaviour and sustainable practices in maintaining these spaces for future generations
For our Secondary 2 students, they took on the challenge of investigating sustainability and inclusivity in the Tampines neighbourhood. Through data collection and analysis, students observed how green features like solar panels, barrier-free access, and vertical gardens impact residents’ quality of life. They reflected deeply on issues affecting people with disabilities and the environment, embracing values such as environmental stewardship and, respect for diversity,
Meanwhile, our Secondary 3 students explored the concept of ‘Sense of Place’ at Our Tampines Hub. By engaging with the people who live, work, and play in the space, students gained insights into how places foster identity, belonging, and community cohesion. Through this investigation, they developed a stronger appreciation for cultural inclusivity, civic consciousness, and the importance of building meaningful places that reflect the values and identities of those who inhabit them.
These learning journeys across the levels highlight how Geography at Springfield is not just about studying places—it’s about understanding people, appreciating different perspectives, and inspiring students to contribute positively to the world around them.
Cohort Visit to SG Mobility Gallery
Our visit to the SG Mobility Gallery was an eye-opening experience that brought Singapore’s land transport system to life. Through engaging multi-sensory exhibits and informative handouts, The Secondary 2 students gained a deeper understanding of how the Land Transport Authority plans and builds a safe, inclusive, and sustainable transport network. From learning about public transport innovations to trying out hands-on simulations, the journey sparked our curiosity and appreciation for the people behind our daily commutes. It was a fun and meaningful exploration that inspired us to think about the future of mobility in Singapore.
