Drama Club had a very productive year in 2024. Although it was not the year for the bi-annual performance for the Singapore Youth Festival, Drama Club had the opportunity to perform one of Singapore’s well-loved rite of passage classics, “Army Daze” on stage at the Woodlands Regional Library on April 13, 2024. Participants and audience alike were treated to an afternoon of excitement and were transported into a world of imagination and creativity at “TellStory9 Back in the Theatre!” with How Drama.
Back at Springfield, our thespians also performed the Recollections segment for our annual national Day Performance. They did not only work hard but also served the community for the CCA VIA programme. This year, we went to Willing Hearts and helped out in the kitchen.
It was not just all work and no play. The students had the opportunity to watch “Fat Kids are harder to Kidnap” – the title certainly is a misnomer as no kids were hurt or even kidnapped! Instead, this year’s edition saw How Theatre tackling sustainability and environmental issues in this special edition of “Fat Kids are Harder to Kidnap goes Green! In one hour, audience got to choose on demand what they wanted the cast to perform out of a list of 31 skits. The loudest school got their choice, and the kids thoroughly enjoyed watching this interactive performance AND learning more about current environmental issues. Certainly, it was an afternoon well-spent. In October, the students also had the opportunity to pick up a new skill – archery. It was held in the ISH, and for most of them, it was their first time trying their hand at this ancient sport.
Our graduating students also had the opportunity to learn more about Theatre Studies at La Salle College of the Arts as part of the Education and Career Guidance Programme. After the brief talk of what the course covers, the students were also given the opportunity to watch a performance by the graduating cohort.
