Business Owners
The Business Owners play a strategic role and are not engaged in the day-to-day activities of managing the business. Rather, they focus on the big picture. They define the vision and roadmap. They have the knowledge and authority to make strategic decisions and clear the path of political and financial obstacles.
For example, Don might be responsible for the expansion plan, a strength he has demonstrated by playing a major role in creating SunWater Spa from the ground up. Kat might be involved with the creative vision that is SunWater Spa at it’s very core and has been demonstrated and appreciated in the larger community. Together, they create the ultimate vision and roadmap for the company and are responsible for relaying this to the Spa Director.
The owners both support and receive support from the Spa Director. They are the Sun that shines on SunWater Spa.
Spa Director
The Spa Director oversees the company's overall day-to-day operations, finances, and management. This position comes with legal responsibilities to the owners, including the duty of care and loyalty. These legal responsibilities are intended to promote transparency and trust and protect the business's key stakeholders.
The Spa Director is responsible for building the business. They create business plans and the general vision and mission of the company, set and work on goals, and ensure the business keeps running.
The Spa Director receives guidance from the owners regarding the organization's vision and goals, delegates the day-to-day management responsibilities, and focuses on strategies that will drive SunWater's day-to-day success.
For example, the Spa Director is responsible for delegating responsibilities to the Marketing Manager, Facilities Manager, Spa Manager, Retail Manager, and Accounting Manager. They support the managers and is key in helping to guide them in supporting and implementing the vision and purpose of the company.
The Spa Director radiates the Sun from the owners out to the management and broadens and encourages the flow of the waters.
Managers
The managers of SunWater Ventures LLC set goals and help to determine the best ways to achieve them. They allocate resources (people, equipment, and money) to carry out the company’s plan, provide focus and motivation for employees, and evaluate performance, taking corrective action when necessary.
The organizational structure is primarily circular, giving each manager personal agency within the leadership circle. A circular structure places managers in the organization's center, with all other staff in a concentric ring expanding outward. This encourages open communication and collaboration, sending guidance and information outward rather than downward. The leaders are not considered to sit at the top; rather, they radiate the vision outward from the center of the circle in all directions to every level of the organization. The circular structure strives to be more inclusive, develop collaboration and creativity, and make management more accessible. This structure strives to promote the free flow of information between the various parts of the company. All departments are part of the whole.
