This policy is for salaried exempt employees only (see chart below and your offer letter for more info).
On January 1, 2023, the minimum salary required to qualify for the executive/supervisor, administrative, and professional exemptions under state law increases to $1086.25 per week or $56,485 per year.
Salaried exempt employees are not required to track hours worked in Homebase.
All time off requests (PTO/Vacation, Sick, Unpaid time off) shall be made through the employee’s Homebase portal and will need a supervisor’s approval.
Salaried employees are expected to work 32 hours 4 days per week or as the job demands (see below)
A salaried employee must work within the workweek, Monday thru Sunday in order to get paid for that full week.
Because these hours will not be tracked, we trust that these hours are being maintained on average each week, knowing that some weeks will require more time and some weeks will require less.
All salaried employees have the option to work a 4-day, 32-hour work week. This new policy aims to provide our employees with a better work-life balance, improved productivity, and increased job satisfaction. This benefit has been extended due to the high level of diligence, teamwork, and communication, as well as the high level of skill demonstrated by our managers. This policy will start on May 1, 2023.
Under this policy:
1. Employees will work four 8-hour days of their choice, Monday through Sunday, with Monday being a core workday.
2. As salaried employees you are given the option to work longer hours if desired with no additional monetary benefit.
3. Annual salary and benefits, including vacation and sick hours will not differ from the standard full-time employment, originally based on a 5-day forty-hour work week.
4. Should a paid holiday fall on a scheduled workday, the employee may elect to
a. work the holiday with no additional compensation,
b. take the day off and switch with another day,
c. use vacation hours to cover the holiday.
5. For full or part-day absences as a result of vacation or illness taken on a scheduled workday, employees will be charged the number of hours they were normally scheduled to work.
We will periodically assess the ongoing feasibility of the 4-day 32-hour work week and have the right to make changes to this policy in the future with no additional compensation for additional hours or days worked.
The benefits of a 4-day, 32-hour work week include:
Improved Work-Life Balance: By having three days off each week, employees will have more time to spend with their families, pursue hobbies or other interests, and take care of personal matters.
Increased Productivity: Studies have shown that employees who work fewer hours are often more productive than those who work longer hours. By providing employees with more free time, they will have more energy and focus to complete their work in a shorter period.
Reduced Stress and Burnout: A 4-day work week can reduce employee stress and prevent burnout, leading to improved mental health and overall well-being.
Company Cost Savings: With employees spending one less day in the office, we could see cost savings on expenses such as electricity, heating/cooling, and other overhead costs.
Employee cost savings: With employees spending one less day in the office, they could see cost savings on travel, and outside meals.
We believe that this policy change will have a positive impact on our employees' lives and our overall business operations.
Employees eligible for a 4-day work week will need to
Have good past performance appraisals demonstrating the ability to meet job expectations.
Be able to work independently without constant supervision from his/ her supervisor.
Have strong self-discipline and good time management skills.
Remain accountable for the quality of the work performed.
Be flexible to work outside of normal working schedules when business need arises.
Arrange days off with the leadership team so that one or more managers is always working any given weekday. Working on a weekend is also encouraged but not required.
All employees working a 4-day work week must work within the limit of 48 hours per
week and take a minimum break of 30 minutes for every 5 consecutive hours of work.
A salaried employee may be eligible for one week of severance pay for each year of service, up to a maximum of 12 weeks.
Employees who are terminated due to performance issues, serious policy violations, or who voluntarily resign will not be eligible for severance pay.
