A day on the Boat
Color pencil, watercolors, black marker
12" x 9"
The main idea that guided my artwork was the prairie dog and his emotions. The picture could have been completely different if he were sad, angry etc. Because he is happy and enjoying his time on the boat, I wanted the colors to be bright and vibrant like his mood.
I made this by first sketching everything out in pencil, filling it in with colored pencil and watercolor for the eyes, and outlining everything in black marker so it is more defined.
For the process, I had to look up what a prairie dog was in the first place because I thought it was some sort of actuala dog. It took me a while to get his face right because I wanted him to look happy. I also experimented with a tail, but I ended up deciding I did not like it.
