Duck Stamp

Green winged teal

9"x12"

Watercolor, color pencil, graphite, water color paper

The main idea that guided my art was the prompt provided. We had to draw a duck of our choice. I chose a green winged teal because I really like the green detail it has on its head and I just think it is a cute duck. I made the back a sunset because I like drawing sunsets and I think it creates a relaxing scene. I also like blending colors all together and creating reflections, like what I did with the sunset on the water. The whole feeling I wanted to convey is the beauty of animals in their habitat.

The work was made by first sketching everything out in graphite. I then used watercolor to fill in the sky and water, and the main parts of the duck. Finally, I went in with color pencils to add details and multiple layers.

I spent a lot of time on the wings and adding details to them. At first there were not as many divots and feathers but I added more. I also went back to the water a lot, because it was difficult to add details and make it look like it was rippling. Overall adding reflections and motions took a while. I also spent some time adding different green and white to the green on the ducks head, because that is what really makes it stand out
