Artist Statement
The main idea that guided my artwork was trying to incorporate both Andy Warhol and Picasso into my piece. I chose to use a simple object as my main focus point which is something Andy Warhol did a lot, and then use unique and abstract colors and shapes to fill in the empty space instead of it all being pure color, which is something Picasso liked to do. For this work, I started out by sketching the apple and where I wanted the different shapes to be. I then began using color pencil to fill in the shapes and add color, and went over that in marker and paint. Finally, I used pink acrylic paint to make the background pink. This piece took a lot of revising when it came to the colors. I wanted there to be distinct lines between them so when a color bled over I had to redo it. I structured it the way I did because I still wanted the apple to look like simply an apple, which is why I kept the left side bare while still making the right side pop.
