Butterfly

12" x 16"

Acrylic and paint marker on canvas

The main idea that guided my artwork was using all 84 colors to create a butterfly and flowers while also making it look good and clean. I liked making the butterfly very bright and using tons of colors because I wanted it to really stand out.

The work was made by first sketching out my design in graphite and mixing all the paint colors to use as I went. Most of the dark shades were used in the background as a nice black back for the butterfly. I used black and white paint marker to outline it all and clean it up.

The painting originally had another flower right above the antenna of the butterfly but I ended up coloring it black instead because I liked how the antennas stood out more. I spent a lot of time brainstorming how to separate all 84 colors, because it definitly is a lot. I used most of them on the butterfly, and utilized different shades to make an ombre effect.
