Wire Sculpture

Wire Tower

We started by making a wire tower using fish hook connections. This was a tower of 10 - 1 1/2 inch segments. We had to create a tower that was almost standing straight up.

For this project I used regular wire and copper wire. I used tools such as needle nose pliers and wire cutters to shape and size each piece of wire. We used fish hook connections to put each piece together and then we would "squeeze" the air of the hook or pinch the connection to get them to stay.

My inspiration was my birkenstock be cause I always am wearing these everywhere and I thought this would be a good challenge for me however not too hard since thi was my first time making a wire sculpture. I did the simple shape of the sandal that consisted of the sole, the straps and buckles, the independents of the shoes where my foot rests and my name on the empty part of the strap.

I started. by getting the base of the shoe and scaling this to a 1 to 1 ratio. I then used small pieces of wire with these fish hook connections to build the second layer, I made sure to tightly pinch them so it would stay straight up. I then did the indents and then finished with the straps. The very final piece which was my name which I wrote in cursive on a piece of paper and then replicated this onto copper wire.
