Graphite and large print paper

The main focus of this was to create a largescale assemblage of a butterfly. I chose the color scheme blue and purple as opposites to the colors I chose from my other assemblage project. I used yellow, red, and orange so this time I chose the other side of the color wheel. I wanted to create this at a large scale so that it would be noticeable to the eye when someone saw it.

I started with a simple sketch with graphite( on the left) with the right scale and materials to start my ideas. I then traced this out onto cardboard and cut this out. I then got magazine pieces with the correct colors I wanted and made sure to get enough to cover the areas I wanted. I then used a glue and water mixture to attach the magazine to the cardboard and then let this dry.

Once I had all my pieces I used hot glue and wire to attach the pieces. I used wire so that each part would stick up making it 3D. I then taped wire to the back and used pliers to curl the ends to make them look like antennas. Overall I am pleased with the outcome, however, I wish I had had more time to create an even better and more detailed piece. Next time I would create an even larger scale piece to see how far my skills can extend. There wasn't much meaning to the piece however it was very fun to create and I'm glad I did.
