Scratchboard
This technique of scratchboard where you have to take away the dark to reveal the light was definitely a new way of thinking. It taught me to look at the work in a new way and pay attention to each and every line so that it looks realistic. I learn that you have to also pay attention to the direction of the lines to carefully create the shape of the figure. The main focus of this was to create a realistic piece of art that looks similar to my representation.
For this piece I started by choosing a photo that I took of a cat in its home laying ontop of a blanket. I transferred this to my laptop and changed the image to black and white, and changed the amount of saturation for the best reference possible. I started on the left side of the scratchboard and moved to the right side. I used many different materials such as fiberglass and other stratching utensils. One of the problems I had creating this piece was scartching the blanket that the cat is laying on. The way the blanket was folding was difficult for me to create the way the blanket waved and used depth. I ended by touching up on the areas that were the lightest and continuing to add more scratches to emphasise the lightness such the chin and arm of the cat.
If I were to do this again I would make sure to test for ways to do it differently. I would try to find different way to do different types of lines and maybe include more deatail in the overal body of the cat. I would definitly want to do this again because it was super fun and the technique were much different than anything else I've done
