For this specific sustained investigation, I wanted to zoom in on architectural elements rather than designing a whole building while still representing my base question, which is how can horizontal and vertical elements juxtapose to impact the appearance and functionality of an architectural design. By creating a mini series of works with the same basic composition but varying elements, I hoped to display how different layers of horizontal and vertical elements juxtapose to let in specific light by showing the shadows cast.

In terms of materials, I kept it fairly simple with just graphite pencils, however I felt this also demonstrated some experimentation as I have not previously used pencil in my works. I also made use of a previously existing model to figure out shadows and light as this was a bit difficult to do without a reference image.

From the beginning, I knew fairly certainly what I wanted the composition to incorporate, however I struggled with the perspective, which is a bit off, as well as drawing in differentiations of light and dark, as I tend to typically work with solid lines and colors and strict two point perspective.
